Dial "Z" for Zombie! / Android!

It's Horror vs. Science Fiction Day at THOIA, as John Kaminski submits a wickedly goofy Jim Mooney tale from the May '53 issue of Marvel Tales #114‏, and in return I've posted a S/F tale that he requested from the August '54 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #30. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a couple hundred phone calls to make...

I need me one of those zombie phones. But I wouldn't let anyone else know I had it.
The president in the Androids comic looks like a cross between Santa Claus and Jabba the Hut. If I don't miss my guess this is an allegory for what the U.S. government did to the Indians. "White Man Speak With Forked Tongue." Or maybe that's just what I'm seeing.

I would sell my soul for a zombie phone. Or even a zombie skype, for that matter...

So that's where Matt Groening got the title for that Simpsons Halloween Special segment....

TWO COOL TALES, THE SCI FI STORY WAS KIND OF PREDICTABLE BUT FUN AND I LOVED THE COLOR COMBINATIONS OF THE FIRST STORY.

What isn't properly explained in “Dial ‘Z’” is that the final zombie was summoned by the phone company. In those days, one wasn't allowed to simply tie one's own subscriber set into the system, and Ma Bell took such matters very seriously.

Ha ha! I wish the first one had gone on a lot longer.

Oh boy, a Zombie Phone! It looks like something you'd see for sale in this comic book. Maybe that's where the voodoo master got his?

umm, wow. Voodoo Phone. wow.

seems to me those androids should kick the humans off of Earth and keep it for themselves- they could fix 'er up in a jiffy...

I guess I am as speechless as everyone else about the concept of a voodoo phone. Gotta love precode comics when it comes to far out ideas.

Don't touch that dial-- yet! Whether you realized it or not, we're in the midst of a theme, so stay tuned!
