Stolen Skin / Out of the Grave

Today, THOIA takes you on a trip through the undisputed darkest chapter in evil modern human history, on this, the 120th anniversary of the birth of the most sinister creature to ever walk the face of the Earth: Adolf Hitler. It’s a double shot of revolting nazi nasties, the latter from the grimmer depths of Farrell Publication pre-code tastelessness, while our first tale is another Flash Forward presentation from the November 1981 issue of DC's Weird War Tales #105. Umm, enjoy?

Re: Stolen Skin. Those filipino artists are immensely underrated! Ruben Yandoc's work reminds me of a less-intense Gerry Talaoc.

With that, I have to recommend Gerry Talaoc's black and white work reprinted in Showcase Presents: Unknown Soldier. Gritty good stuff!

Okay, yeah, these tales really were in bad taste, especially the first one. Commandant Ulrich definitely deserved his fate, not only because he was a fucking Nazi, but because he was a fucking idiot as well – he disguises himself as a Jew and then thinks it'd be a good idea to contact his old Kameraden. Duh!

The exploding boots, though – those were neat. I'm just wondering how poor Antonio managed to fit the dynamite into the hells.

And just what the hell is it with Nazis and lamp shades made out of human skin, anway??

You have to love the 70's style haircuts throughout the first story. I mean, no Fu Manchu `staches, but still, 1940's Nazi Germany them styles ain't.

As for the second one, yes, in very bad taste, but I'm just happy to see an Italian portrayed heroically (in those pre-Godfather days). Although he's still a killer, isn't he? Oh well...

Both stories in very poor taste. Not many comments today. I think we're all in shock.

when i think of exploding boots, i think of The Tenth Victim. "Baron Von Richtoffen has withdrawn!..."

I don't share the "in bad taste" mentality with regard to these stories. Like it or not, these are historical documents which serve to illustrate the extent to which popular culture was impacted by Hitler's ideologies.

Food for thought...

"Stolen Skin" is very similar to a story that appeared in Warren's EERIE in the mid/late 60s.

[COMMENT NECROMANCY!]

I like Hitler's modish haircut and groovy sideburns in "The Stolen Skin!" (5th page really shows them off)
