The big 13th post, THOIA finale of 2024 is a deliriously gory decapitation nightmare presentation from the December 1953 issue of Strange Fantasy #9! And what a way to end out the fear, err, year-- and hello, this entire issue is now finally archived here btw, just check the two previous posts, as well as "Hair Yee-Eeee" originally posted way back in April 2012! Hope everyone enjoyed the last 12 months of curated horror comic fun-- and my plan for 2025 is to take a few new twists 'n turns to really spice things up! So as usual (or unusual!) --stay tombed for tons more-- and HAPPY NEW YEAR, 'natch!

Floppy Nude Fear, everyone.
That second last panel: Kane just deflated...
I have an appreciation for these stories that felt like they were written on the train ride to the office the day of the deadline. They just rocket along (in more ways than one, like flying through space) and everything that happens is about as convenient as possible.
I love the mother in law nagging the devil that's a writer getting out some personal problems on paper!
I also love how unapologetically gory this is. It starts with dripping necks! A fully nude devil (no super villain pants for this one!), headless zombies and trails of blood!
BTW: Artist talent spotting -- when the action picks up at the end we get more slanted camera panels. That's a good trick.
Happy New Year!
This one gets bizarre with the random wishing powers tacked on to what would otherwise be a fairly normal story about a man having repetitive dreams and being haunted by his cursed ancestor. I love how the first wish Horace uses as a test is to send his mother-in-law to Hades. You’d think he’d start small or something but no, someone REALLY hated that woman. Then the wife too!🤣 Then he just randomly wishes for a hot woman!(Honestly, that had me cackling. Typical male wish) I love how knowledgeable the doctor is about ghosts especially on this one specific ghost. Love the panel where Horace causally tells the doctor that his wishes come true as they fly through space ti Paris! 🤣I feel sorry for the doctor though. Poor guy got dragged into this mess and lost his life for trying to help. Also, we never saw Amos tell Horace that his wishes didn’t work on him. My only nitpick there.
Happy New Year! The Ape and Curse of the Zombies is a pretty great double bill. Things are really looking up.
The art here is great in that cursed Iger Shop kind of way: The odd proportions, rigid lines, and onslaught of detailing giving everything a tortured, mutated feeling. I love the bottom of page three, with it's tiny-limbed bobble-head radiating anxiety fingerprints like an evil puppet gouged from blighted wood; with mother dear trapped between billowing hellfire and a pervy devil. I could say similar for the bottom of page four, too. For all of it.
It was an excellent end to another great year of precode blog reading! Thanks!
I somehow expected the doctor to be part of the curse, leading him down the garden path with his occult knowledge, so what happened to him really surprised me. So yes, poor doctor.
