Dear Valentine! / It Happened on Valentine's Eve

Welcome lovebirds, to THOIA's Valentine Weekend Double Header Massacre! It's Atlas vs. Ace in two terrifying tales totally not endorsed by Hallmark. And first up-- "Dear Valentine!" from the very last issue of Adventures into Terror #31 (May 1954), with slick art by Al Hartley (or should that be Heartly?) Here's hoping that everyone has a wonderful holiday... *vomits*

It Happened on Valentine's Eve
(The Beyond #4, May 1951)

We're not done with our sweethearts theme this week, with plenty more pathetic attempts at wooin' and cooin' and whatever else rhymes with murder, ghosts, and general mean spirited mayhem on the way!

What can be said--as far as I'm concerned, Valentine's day is a horror show!

First time I ever heard a storm described as "rugged." Nice.

The second tale was quite predictable, but the delivery still sent chills down my spine. Poor Lou May. :(

Glad you're back, Karswell, and thanks for these Valentine treats!

reading these is an excellent way to spend Valentine's Day...at work. Thanx Kars!

I AM AT WORK TODAY TOO AND THESE WERE PERFECT FOR KILLING SOME TIME. I LIKED THE ATLAS STORY BEST BUT THE SECOND WAS REALLY CREEPY TOO. THANKS!

This was a great Atlas story, and although predictable, the little gold digger gets her just desserts.
The second tale was better. Wunderbar story, art, and ending, although I would have been tempted to go back and change the past (and who knows how so the future?).
The only thing I would have changed was in the splash panel.
There are no mountains in south Georgia. We have them here in north Georgia, but not in the Okefenokee!

Two nice treats for Valentine's Day, and quite sweet. The first tale was about as predictable as they come, except the murdered husband was a ghost instead of a zombie. The Atlas mood and art work is always welcome, though.

The second tale was much better, though I swear I've read it before. Was this a re-posting? Maybe this was one of those tales redone later as an Eerie Publication? It's hard to tell when things start to blur.

Thanks as always, Karswell.

True. And this year VD proved more terrifying than all my Halloweens combined, but I won't bore all of you with it. Thanks for the comments, and as mentioned there's more failed attemtps with the opposite sex coming right up. And later this month we'll be "Flashing Back" with some black and white horror, including GA reprints, and a few other things (schedule permitting), hopefully nothing too predictable this time. Stay Creepy...
