The Skeptic! / Chilly Chamber Music

A weird war tale with great art from the March 1954 issue of Chamber of Chills #22 (Vol. 1) --saaay, this story needs a better ending, who's got one? And rounding things out with a couple funny Chilly Chamber Music one-page fillers from Nostrand... who else loves this Lee Elias cover as much as me?

The Ugly Duckling

The March 1954 issue of Chamber of Chills #22 kicks off with this demented little terror tale... a tale that seems to have possibly made an impact on Canadian filmmaker Julian Roffman, as the spooky skull image in the splash panel below seems nearly identical to the cursed mask in his 1961 cult film classic "The Mask."

[Strangely, the usual GCD link was a washout here-- I was able to find artist data at comicbookplus.com. -- Nequam]

Screams in the Night

Sorry for the lack of consistant updates around here lately, I've been attempting to catch up on some other personal stuff in preparation for San Diego Comic-Con 2012... that's right, make sure to stop by the IDW / Yoe Books booth next month and say hi, as me and Craig will both be attending to promote ZOMBIES! --I'll have other related news on this to follow soon as well! And in the meantime (as in nasty nazi meanie), here's a horrifically grim, WW2 screamer from the March 1953 issue of Haunted Thrills #7.

The Corpse Who Killed

The living dead come in all shapes and sizes-- and sometimes they even come in jars! This is a weird one with a well used "brain" theme found in many pre-code horror tales, this time courtesy of Farrell Publications and from the March 1953 issue of Haunted Thrills #7.

Planet Without Death...

Haven't posted a sci-fi schlocker in awhile, so this one is as good or bad as any, also from the Nov '54 issue of Mysteries Weird and Strange #10 (see last post), and highlighted by a sexy, man hungry green alien whose brief time on Earth could have probably been more well spent as a companion for the Jolly Green Giant.

The Haunted Hand!

Like a sinister severed hand attacking, THOIA scuttles beyond the 1500th post mark with this one-- another crummily printed Superior Comics tale (by request), from the November 1954 issue of Mysteries Weird and Strange #10.

The Black Flame

The zombie insanity continues with another one from the May 1954 issue of Strange Mysteries #17-- this time with an extra dose of action and adventure on top of the ridiculous "imported zombies as criminals" premise.
