Harvest of Death

The Dynamic Duo of Mort Meskin and George Roussos come together for our next violently bizarre tale, from the “lost” issue of Adventures into Darkness #15.

One more "lost" story to go tomorrow…

TOMORROW: More Meskin and Roussos!

PLUS: A 1 page bonus filler and a 2 page text story

And in stores today, two obscure Mexican genre classics on one DVD from Navarre! El Hombre Que Logro Ser Invisible (’58) is basically a spanish cast remake of Universal’s The Invisible Man Returns with supposedly pretty good FX, while La Isla De Los Dinosaurios (’67) finds an exploration team trapped (where else?) on a forgotten island and battling all kinds of prehistoric dangers.

Not sure if this DVD is dubbed or if it even has English subs, but you can hardly beat the $6.99 price tag for two alarmantes peliculas! Click HERE for more info and to order!

Death Dives Deep

The rarities continue, (and no, you're not color blind!) In 1954, Standard Comics had the entire 15th issue of Adventures into Darkness practically completed, but with the Comics Code snarling down their backs they apparently felt the need to cease production of their fab line of horror titles, (including The Unseen, Out of the Shadows etc...) The stories you’ll read this week starting today remained surpressed for 30+ years until October 1985, when Eclipse Comics bought the rights to reprint them in their cool Three-Dimensional Seduction of the Innocent #1 issue.

BELOW: the intended cover for Adventures into Darkness #15.

So, for the next 3 days you’ll be seeing the entire “lost” issue of Adventures into Darkness #15 here at THOIA --minus color and the distracting 3-D process. (Special mention goes to Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr. and his original summery about this issue in SOTI 3-D #1.)

I hope you enjoy this stuff!

TOMORROW: More Adventures into Darkness #15!

BONUS Filler

Also, does anyone know if these pages were ever colored? I’ve only seen them in the 3-D format. Also, visit the Comic Book Catacombs today for a THOIA submitted tale from Weird Thrillers #3 featuring a mermaid, a monster, and lots of undersea action! It’s--- Princess of the Sea!

Death Has Many Tongues / Curse of the Satania

Wrapping up Avon’s City of the Living Dead one-shot today with the final tale, and this one is from ACG staple Harry Lazarus. I also included this issue's text story afterwards since a few of you have emailed asking me to post them when I do full issues presentations. (You completists can be so demanding!)

Thanks for sticking with me all this week and weekend, and for all the great comments… it’s important here at THOIA to get feedback and to know what you guys like, and/or don’t like.

Terror of the Skeleton Men (text story)

TOMORROW: Another full issue begins, but this time it’s one that the Comics Code killed back in the 50’s before it ever even had a chance to be published! It’s Adventures into Darkness #15 (and it's not in 3-D either!)

Curse of the SataniaDon’t run off screaming just yet, here’s a bonus 3-page quickie from ACG to round out your "Evil White Slave Trader Sunday."

The Witches Come at Midnight!

Someone commented about yesterday’s Nodel and Alascia story by saying it was like something from Black Magic, and today’s story is no exception… featuring a smattering of Kirby influence in the splash, as well as the demented creature design, most notably the thick, shadow-filled inking style that is frightening, yet playful.

City of the Living Dead!

One year ago today we kicked off January 2008 with “The Dead Who Walk” comic, now bare witness as we unearth another one-shot rarity to help usher in 2009. Today’s 1952 issue of City of the Living Dead from Avon Periodicals isn’t a full length single tale like The Dead Who Walk, but instead the usual collection of individual tales in classic pre-code terror tale mode, highlighted by today’s title story from A.C. Hollingsworth.

Enjoy! More details follow today's tale... and Happy New Year too!

+++++++++++++++++++++++

And all this week (and weekend) you can expect: zombies, blobs, skeleton men, witches, severed heads and voodoo… and of course lots more THOIA surprises are in store for 2009--- seriously, we’re just getting warmed up!
