The Thing, Creepshow and several other movies were in our regular video rental rotation in high school. I first saw this in the creepy atomsphere of the Karswell household. We went on to see other scary things, like Howard the Duck, but this one stood the test of time.
rob bottin is my hero! his creature fx are so amazing in the thing and still to this day put computer fx to shame. they're even remaking it again I heard.
Quite possibly THE greatest remake of all time,as well as my 2nd favorite John Carpenter film.to hell with ET.,this was the alien movie me and my friends all loved back in '82.whatever happened to you John?what?
I remember people ragging on THE THING when it came out, lotsa bad reviews killed it in the theatres quicker that Gigli got it. But for those of us who went about 14 times at the show in the first week and then watched it a bazillion times immediately after it hit vhs it will always be THE DEFINTIVE sci-fi horror movie of all time. Nothing has come close before or since in my opinion, and Carpenter has definitely never made a better movie.

Ahhh yes, watching movies inside the Atom Sphere... those were the days when great movies prevailed, they would literally split you in two with such explosive impact that it'd leave mushroom clouds dissipating high above Oakville for months on end. Except for that one night when we watched KRULL.
