The Devil's Good Deed!

Did you guys honestly think I'd end the month of February with a story about the Devil playing fair for once?! (See previous post, "The Devil and the War Bride.") Umm, think again, darlings! Instead, let's smell the magic and go out in style with a wonderfully epic, 4-page tale by awesome Al Luster about the world's greatest trickster truly doing his part to bring all you lovers together-- even if it kills ya! From the March 1953 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #16.

The Devil and the War Bride

One more bedeviled bride story to end out THOIA's February Freak-A-Thon, and I hope everyone enjoyed the eerie assortment we featured this month! Annnnd similar to one of our previous tales where we saw an evil voodoo witch doctor have a sudden change of heart in the climax, can it be true that even Ol Scratch himself might possibly be played and swayed as well? Read today's post from the June 1953 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #44 to find out! (And a very special thanks to Ferocious Phil for the scans too!)

Death Was the Bridegroom

The bloodthirsty brides of death continue to invade THOIA this month with another awesome Ace Magazines terror tale, this time fueled by the hand of Ken Rice and from the ominous October 1953 issue of The Hand of Fate #20. There are some really fine, visually frightening moments in this one...

The Bride's Borrowed Time

We're still barrelin' along in bridal beast mode here at THOIA, and leave it to legendary Ace Magazines great, Lou Cameron (with an ink assist by Rocco Mastroserio) to concoct this tale of newlyweds and witchcraft with secret bush country head hunter shrinking techniques! This is a wild one that is as wonderfully goofy as it is weirdly deranged! From the May 1952 issue of Baffling Mysteries #8.

Zombie Bride

Boy, if you thought the supernatural end game motivations of our last story were unfocused and lacked definition, wait'll you get a load of this one! A fine example of Iger Shop art and unintentionally hilarious dialog, as THOIA's February Freak-A-Thon shifts gears a bit again into even more bonkers bridal terror-tory! From the July 1952 issue of Voodoo #2.

The Spectral Bride

What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by attending a weird wedding! And like our previous post, it too is from the August 1953 issue of Out of the Night #10, with Golden Age great, Art Gates, doing a swell job creating some fast paced, moody, midnight atmosphere. And as we plunge our doomed groom into a cemetery of horror for all eternity, here's hoping every one of you has an equally grave, errr, great holiday! Lots more from THOIA's February Freak-A-Thon throughout the rest of the month too-- stay tombed!

The Reluctant Witch

Time to head to the ball and have ourselves one helluva good time with another lurid tale full of demons and wonky witchcraft, courtesy of the August - September 1953 issue of Out of the Night #10. Really nice art by Hy Eisman too, a name that isn't ringing a lot of bells around here, --I believe this may be the first story I've ever posted featuring his talents. Hy's interesting bio can be found HERE!

The Bat!

Swoopin' in with more wild, winged wonders on a frightfully fine Wednesday, this time from the February 1950 issue of Captain America's Weird Tales #75! And with those excellent, arching eyebrows, Dolores would've been a perfect film role for Maila Nurmi, --the greatest vampire gal of all time!
