Money Hungry

Sorry for the late post today gang, I had a very busy weekend and today I just couldn't get my act together. This story was originally on the THOIA schedule for yesterday (to celebrate my Mom’s b-day) but it was bumped in favor of Twisted Tales Weekend. Sorry ma! Anyway, you guys were commenting about the depressingly grim nature of the last few days’ posts so here’s something a bit more upbeat and cheery. And you know I’m totally lying.

From the June 1953 issue of Mysterious Adventures #15

Aaaaaah, now this is more like it. Hilarious story. "It's the next morning, Jeremiah... but you're dead..." I love stories where the narrator is talking to the "hero," even after he's kicked it!

I like relaxed conversations with corpses, and the belief that the words will stick.

Thanks for this great strip.

Such cheerful posts! Think I'll slit my writsts, hahaha. Just kidding. Sarah Courtland is definitely the most deserving victims in a story you've posted as of yet. btw, know this is a horror blog, but did anyone see WATCHMEN? Is it worth seeing?.

The story works really hard to force the "money hungry" theme into the story. You know, so they could have their wicked force-feeding scene at the end. Still, it seems like mother's problems lie elsewhere. She is obviously willing to spend her money in an effort to keep control over her son. And what she doesn't spend ruining his life, she is willing to keep secret, thereby, in essence, living without it.

No, what mother seems to be most hungry for is her son, certainly she's far more worried about living without him than without money. But the story couldn't really end with him force-feeding himself to his mother, now could it?

Actually, Mr. C., that would be more gruesome.

Would've been a heck of an ending.

Good one Mr C! But didn't that already happen somewhere in Mike Diana's Boiled Angel collection?

I'll have today's post up around noon today, still a bit off track from yesterday... it's another story from this same issue of Mysterious Advenutres #15.

Hope I didn't scare everyone off with that Twisted Tales Weekend! And fyi: our next Flash Forward later this week will feature Bernie Wrightson.
