Flaming Vengeance

A non-Jack Cole tale today from the November 1953 issue of Web of Evil #8, this one would have gone great with the Flame Thrower tale I posted earlier this month.

Have a hot weekend everyone!

LOVED IT! I also loved the prose on the splash. Great stuff!

Boy, it's a good thing Ebenezer Scrooge there was pals with the mystic turban guy! (He probably sold the old creep the potion knowing full well... his goose was cooked! Haw haw!)

In the immortal jargon of the comic books:

AIEEEEEEEE!

Great story, and the ending surprised me. I was expecting the victims of the fire to arise as fiery ghosts but this ending was way better.

Vultures are noted for taking poison to avoid punishment? Everything seems so clear now.

Awesome story! I particularly like the cold and efficient way the ending is presented. No breathless last-frame shocker here, just one whole page of people doing what they do while breathing normally. I guess we'll burn him. Then we do.

This seems to be more of a crime comic than horror (excepting, for a moment, the turbaned mystic guy). I love these stories about misers. The idea that there are people who want money more than the power and luxuries that can be bought with it just seems so quaintly post-depression era.

I think I said so here before, but that was my landlord! Nice to know what became of him.

SOMEONE EARLIER THIS WEEK SAID THAT THE WEB OF EVIL SERIES WAS UNDER RATED AND THIS IS EVEN MORE PROOF OF HOW TRUE THAT IS. EVEN NEXT TO THE AMAZING JACK COLE STORIES YOU POSTED THIS IS JUST REALLY GREAT STUFF.

THANKS AGAIN KARS!!!!

Agree, this is top-notch and quietly understated. Almost like they really were aiming for older readers on this series.
