The Ghoul!

For this entire week’s presentation of the September 1952 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #10 we’ll be holding another THOIA contest, this time called Lyric Challenge (as suggested by Patrick Kendall.) Simply put, you read the post, make your usual insightful comments, but then also include lyrics from any song that fits the overall theme or mood of the story itself. It could be a metal masterpiece, a pop jangler, a country ditty, a rap catastrophe,…you name it, and we’ll rate it. Plus! You might just win yourself a THOIA t-shirt in the process.

A winner will be announced next weekend by a "special guest judge" (or two), and runs EVERYDAY this week. You must participate in at least 3 of the challenges to be eligible to win. Is this getting too complicated? Read my entry example for today’s ghoulish tale after the story below. Begin!

The Graveyard by King Diamond
“Where am I? What am I doing here,
In this God forsaken graveyard?
Yeah... that's what I'm doing...
I remember now,
This is my new home
And they will never find me here.”

This is a great story . I can't add anything , I remember reading this in a digest-sized B/W book when I was 10 or so , like most of the stories in those books it impressed me enormously ( and I still svae those books regarded as prized possessions ); the splash is even more effective in colour ...
As for the contest , the only thing that surfaces to my mind is MISFITS' "Ghouuls Night Out" ...
GO-GO THE GHOULS' NIGHT OUT ...

Your are a blogging demi-god, Karswell. Even with a single theme, you manage to keep things interesting around here.

I'm usually exhausted on Monday, just trying to play catch-up with everything that you've posted over the weekend. I do check in on the weekends occasionally, but unless I find myself lacking other ways to entertain myself, I prefer not to blog around much when there are willing females around to scratch certain itches. That's how I spell relief!

GREAT STORY, CARABOTTA IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND LIKE SILVANO SAID I'VE SEEN THIS ONE IN A REPRINT BEFORE TOO THOUGH MINE WAS IN COLOR. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE KRIGSTEIN AND EVERETT STORIES!

AND GODDAMN IT I'M EVEN WORSE AT THE LYRIC CHALLENGE THAN THE CASTING CALL GAME!

Looks like the lyric challenge is already providing a challenge! I like the King Diamond choice, works well for sure. I am going to throw out some Alice Cooper lyrics for today's story, as we do indeed have a killer in a bad place:

From the song "Bad Place Alone" from Alice's masterful " Last Temptation" album:

"Hey blood brother, you're one of our own
You're as sharp as a razor
And as hard as a stone
Hey blood brother, you're bad to the bone
You're a natural killer
In a bad place alone"

I like how the murderer gets all offended by the cops calling him a "ghoul"... that's classic!

"The wolf was no more a beast
Instead, a lady
Only dreams can create
Creeping deep into
The heart I never had."
-- Follow the Wolf

I'm sorry, I got carried away. It's your fault, really.

Bosco had bright yellow eyes. No wonder the cops thought he was a monster.

Well, I figured this contest would be a real challenge, and by the lack of participants so far today I can see I was right. It's not as easy as it seems, in fact it took me nearly half an hour to come up with that King Diamond lyric. Mostly I was doing like Patrick and digging around the Alice Cooper back catalog looking at lyrics for I Love The Dead. Silvano pulled out the Misfits which I'm actually ashamed I overlooked myself cuz it's so perfectly obvious, while Kitty tries to trump me with her own King Diamond pick! I guess we'll have to settle our Double Diamond Duel by mud wrestling.

That is one unkempt cemetary. The angles of those gravestones look like the results of a small earthquake, or maybe the inmates having rather too good a time. :)

Only one song for graveyard ghouls IMHO:
It ain't no trick
To get rich quick
If you dig dig dig
With a shovel or a pick
-- Snow White

If I can quote the great Screamin' Lord Sutch from the song Murder in the Graveyard:

Murder in the graveyard,a policeman said
Lying on a tombstone, a chopped off head
Murder in the graveyard, a convenient spot
Hunt 'em all together and sling 'em in the pot.

Oooo, you know you got a good contest brewing when you get everything from Screamin' Lord Sutch to Snow White for responses.

Good work everyone, but tomorrow you're really gonna have your work cut out for you, it's a tough one.

Till then, to the mud pit!

His Dark Minions see through the thinly-shrouded guise of anonymous comments. A Great Beast shall rise from the seedy underbelly of the happiest place in the world* to devour the non-believers, and make sinners of saints.

But first... the one and only Andy Larocque! (man, that guy can SHRED)

* Denmark, according to the 2008 World Peace Index.

In other words, you've just been "Kitty Clawed" anon!

And no Bactine for you either.
