Deadly Wish

Moving along with our third tale from the Sept/Oct 1954 issue of Fantastic Fears #9, it’s a funny little “be careful what you wish for” type tale possessing a strange sense of humor with Satan targeting a lonely, innocent victim instead of a typically evil person. Hey, nobody ever said that ‘Old Scratch played fair!

Love the splash panel on the first page , which actually would have done a great record sleeve ; the story has its moments as well like the demented dialogue of the demon in the last page " look chief ..."...
Thanks for sharing !

I loved the name of the land lady - Mrs. Bloater!

MRS BLOATER LOOKS ALOT LIKE MY LANDLORD ACTUALLY. COOL TALE, IT IS WEIRD TO SEE A HARMLESS GUY GET SET UP BY THE DEVIL LIKE THIS BUT STILL FUN NONE THE LESS.

The devil actually loves to mess with innocents. The evil ones he already has. And it's not his job to punish the wicked. He encourages them. So this story makes sense, only not in the usual comic theology.

The sad thing is that the man sitting at the table with him on page one is his best friend! With friends like that, who needs enemas?

Great setup but the end seemed rushed. I suppose it was a slow day and Beelzebub needed a slight diversion.

Good point Fred, but this only raises the other usual question of where was our 'ol saintly protector then while all of this was happening? Looking the other way I suppose, as usual.

One more story from Fantastic Fears #9 to go, see ya's in mourn.

"Boo-Hoo You've ruined my life" That has to win the award for best line in this devilish story!

Alright, let's see if I can come up with some heavy metal lyrics that fit with this tale.... How 'bout Judas Priest's Deal with the Devil..

"Gotta deal with the devil
'cause you know that it's real
Done a deal with the devil
From a heart made of steel"

I also love the side profiles of the devil with the huge nose and big bottom lip!

That's actually a great concept for a future contest Patrick, maybe we'll whip it out for the next full issue presentation starting Monday. Think ya'lls got what it takes to match a song lyric with a THOIA story post? We shall see...

Sounds like a lot of fun to me- seeing as how I have been doing it the past couple of days anyway! Bring on the lyric challenge!!
