When Walks the Zombie

Starring David Selby as Walter, Diana Dors as Doris, and Lux Interior as The Zombie (so do the dead...)

From the June 1954 issue of Uncanny Tales #21

"There's nothing on the radio when you're dead...
There's nothing at the movie show when you're dead...
There's nowhere left for you to go when you're dead...
Do the dead, yeah do the dead..."

You know, it's bound to be getting darn crowded in that grave with all that "company" he's taking home.

Good one!

Incredible art. And I love the Cramps "Surfin' Dead" quote from Return of the Living Dead.

The Atlas link says the art is either Benulis or Abel. FYI: to find out artists click the links above in the story intros, usually that info is there. Usually.

Nobody playing "Casting Call" today? I guess it'll be tough to find a better choice for the zombie than Lux though.

COOL ONE, I LOVE ATLAS ZOMBIE TALES.

HOW ABOUT BRUCE CAMPBELL AS WALTER, PAMELA ANDERSON AS DORIS AND MICHAEL RICHARDS AS THE ZOMBIE?

Really nice artwork on this story as so many others have pointed out. I think this one deserves a cast of classic horror veterans:
Walter- Bela Lugosi
Doris- Elsa Lanchester
The Zombie - Lon Chaney Jr. (they could leave his wig on from The Wolfman...that has to be the WORST zombie hairdo EVER!!!)

"Dance with the dead in my dreams... Listen to their hallowed screams... The dead have taken my soul...Temptation, lost all control"
-Slayer

The appearance of the zombie in this gruesome tale really grabs you.

I may not actually sleep tonight, and I didn't realize that we were supposed to be playing the casting game for each days offering.

Your are determined to wreck my peace of mind, aren't ya'?

Johnathan Haze as Walter("i didn't mean it!i didn't mean it!"),Marilyn Monroe as Doris, and Michael Jackson as The Zombie.

You can kill a zombie just by burning a piece of his clothing?

A zombie dry cleaning chain would seem to wield a lot of influence.

it does look like Lux!

That's a cool one. Some crazy stuff there. I just saw the ad for the THOIA shirts too. Cool design. I might have to invest in one of those.

Panel 4, page 4, Walter looks a lot like Jerry Lewis...

Move out, baby
Move that mound
Or they'll dig it up
And they'll shut you down
So, come on...

Excellent call in casting Lux as the Zombie - it's an uncanny likeness! In keeping with the musical theme, I'd add Deborah Harry as Doris, and Tom Waits as Walter.

Yeah, I guess I win the shirt this week, hurrah! Just kiddin'...

I'm with Horror Pariah, the middle bottom panel of page 4 is pure Marilyn.

"Look at it, as it stretches to its full ugliness and washes its alabaster bones in the shower of faded moonglow..."

That's good, that is.
