Born in the Grave

For many of you long time THOIA regulars, all I have to do here is say the words Brian Hirsch Submission and you already know you’re in for a super demented, horrific pre-code post. I’m digging through my own Dark Mysteries tonight and seeing if maybe I can come up with a few days worth of other DM terrors, so this may actually be the start of a fest. Say your prayers now…

From the August 1954 issue of Dark Mysteries #19

If "Werewolf Blood on My Hands" had plot holes, "Born in the Grave" has plot craters. But as gory as that penultimate panel is, cold logic is probably not the point here, huh?

This is truly one of the most twisted stories I've ever read in any era of comics!

Creeee-pay! Something primeval is at work here.

EVERYTHING I'VE READ FROM DARK MYSTERIES SO FAR JUST LEAVES ME FEELING DIRTY AND DISGUSTING, LIKE I NEED A BATH AFTERWARDS.

MORE PLEASE!

When you use words like "super-demented and horrific" I expect the story to deliver, and brother, this one really did.

Dark Mysteries is gonna give Web of Mystery a run for its money!

Thanks to everyone stopping by today, hopefully this post cast a little bit of gloom on your lovely Sunday afternoon. I do have two more DM tales for ya'll this week, one from Hy Fleishman and another one (not signed and contains no GCD credit info) that could possibly be Fleishman as well. Until tomorrow creeps!

Simply stupendous!
Sorry I missed yesterdays post (my PC finally went through it's death throws), but I've jury-rigged an alternate surfing option- and boy am I glad I did! This story just jumped to one of my all time favorites! Pile on the Dark Mysteries, please!

It seems that all of the modern horror movie makers must have read these stories years ago- the "zombie birth" idea made it's way into the remake of Dawn of the Dead! Great stuff as usual Karswell- looking forward to more!

Brutal! What the hell were people smoking in the 50's anyway???

I agree with Zombie Elf, this is one of my new favorites too. Keep 'em coming!

Ahhhh, lucky number 13... this might be the best Sunday turnout ever for THOIA, thanks everybody!

>Sorry I missed yesterdays post

No need to apologize ZE, the posts are up and shall remain up for all eternity so no one should ever miss a single one. And please don't NOT comment on a past post just because it's a day stale, I read all posts up to 7 days old, and sometimes even older.

Thanks again, and as promised there's more Dark Mysteries on the way for Mon and Tues!

So wait a second...what about the ORIGINAL zombie? You know, the one who was really killing all the villagers?

I'm amazed no one has mentioned that amazing see-through wedding dress on the top of page 2! Woohoo! No wonder Aaron hates Karl...I hate him too! Not enough to turn him into a Sonny-Bono-wig-wearing corpse, but still...

This is indeed wild--I love the purple prose: "And so the ardor of fiery love changes in a moment to bitter fury and hate as the enraged suitor plunges the long keen blade deep into the soft bosom!" We've all been there, guys, AMIRITE?

Definitely give us all of this stuff you have in the pantry, Karswell! I'm hungry as Karoly after all the vultures are gone!
