Dr. Gueux’s Nightmare Monsters

Time for another MonsterFest from ACE Comics, featuring a nutty Nazi scientist trying to (what else?) rule the world with living nightmares. A really wild entry here, a few moments on the last page are very reminicent of the climax from Curse of the Demon.

From the January 1953 issue of Baffling Mysteries #13

SEEMS LIKE THE PERFECT SET UP FOR THE LATER KIRBY MONSTERFESTS TO COME.....CRAZY STUFF

Totally... I've been toying with the idea of occasionally posting good silver age horror / monster examples here too, as contrast to the stuff from the 50's that so obviously influenced them in the decades to come. And do not fear, it would just be a couple times a month at the most... I mean with all the new features I keep adding here I don't want to lose sight of the original reason I started this blog. So if this sounds like something everybody would like to see let me know, otherwise I'll just stick to the pre-code stuff.

Page 5, center panel--- bet you never thought you'd live to see Jerry Lewis with a Lion Snake demon wrapped around his head... OH NO NO NO...

Yeah,i love Varna's eyes too,and for anyone wanting an example of the stories Kirby did in the Googam era,see "X the thing that lived!" and "Zzutak, the thing that shouldn't exist!" for 2 stories similar to this plot, also,i love the monsters of Nickels, they look similar to both the ones from WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and the "moon monster" sold in old issues of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND.

>WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and the "moon monster"

You're right about the moon monster... especially in the 3rd panel close-up on page 7.
