Battle of the Monsters

Reading an older comment from last month I realized someone requested a story from Black Cat Mystery that I never got around to… and luckily I found one that not only features a moody Frankenstein type tale but also more “Toddler in Terror ©” thrills! Somebody stop me!

From the June 1952 issue of Black Cat Mystery #36

HOW WONDERFULLY DOWNBEAT AND DEPRESSING! THE MORE I EXPLORE THIS BLOG THE MORE I DISCOVER THAT 50'S COMICS WEREN'T SO ONE NOTE EMOTIONALLY..... BUT WHAT DO I KNOW?

I love how the monster has a coat hanger or a kite or something sticking out of the top of his head... that's some hi-tech super science!

not bad, the artwork is pretty nice but when put side to side harvey and atlas tales are like night and day especially when it comes to the writing

Awww, nice story, thanks for honoring my request for a BLACK CAT story and a Frankenstein story, not as good as the covers'd have you believe, but thats true of all comics,i also need to point out a few things i find interesting;the adorable little brat from SON OF FRANKENSTEIN's name was ironically,Donny Dunagan, and he would eventually voice Bambi(now I wish Boris would have chucked him into the sulfur pit!,though of course,Wold-Newton geeks theorize Peter Frederick Frankenstein went on to become Frederick Fronkensteen, considering their curly hair,so maybe it's good he lived.)could be a reference.also, this story was mentioned in SOTI,but a comic's fan later said it never existed, looks like he was wrong and Wertham was right, though im sure it was all blown out of proportion("bigman is gay!,BLACK CAT will turn kids into monster-lovers,light a bonfire!",at least thats probably how it went.)by old FW.

"Heaven forbid that a comic book should ever show a young child actually holding hands with a re-animated corpse--- ummm, of the same sex."
---Fredrich Wertham*

(*may not have actually said this)
