Man-Eater!

I’m not sure but I think this is the first time I’ve posted a shark story. There was of course the one about the barracudas but I’ll have to further check the archives. And of course this Al Eadeh classic is not just about a killer fish either, as you will see…

From the August 1953 issue of Mystic #22

Man, that close up of Jackson's face is the money shot.
The green monochrome is great.

No Gordon! Don't go! It's a trap!

I don't know what's funnier...Gordon's inability to see what's going on or his stupid hat..awesomely mystic tale!

I'll always bite at a shark story!

I've looked for years for a story Wertham referred to in Seduction Of The Innocent about a beautiful girl who turns into a shark. Have you ever seen a story like that?

"So only MR. DEATH could break the jinx for JINX!"

WTF?

Man, what an idiot Gordon is! An enterprising idiot ("I'll start my OWN glass-bottom boat sight-seeing business! Bwahahaha!"), but still severely challenged. And what bad citizens the Cap'n's passengers are! This has been happening for weeks, and NOBODY thought to contact the police to report a death by misadventure? There oughta be a law! Oh, wait, there is...

And Gordo sure is terrified of that shark! So terrified he's able to scream coherent sentences WHILE UNDERWATER! Now THAT'S terror, folks!

The splash (ha!) page is great, the art pretty good--that scene of the shark with a foot hanging out of its gob is a good one--and I dug it for all its silliness.

>>a beautiful girl who turns into a shark

I think I went to the prom with her! ;)

Doesn't sound familiar Pappy, but if I come across it I will definitely let you know.

This is in reference to the previous story in this issue. Atlas did this all the time, like the story host commenting after the facts.

Thanks for all the comments this morning, 5 comments before 10am might be a record around here!

MAKE IT 6 COMMENTS NOT INCLUDING YOURS KARSWELL, I JUST MADE IT IN UNDER THE CLOCK! GREAT POST TODAY, AND YEAH AS THE VICAR POINTED OUT THERE ARE MANY FLAWS IN LOGIC HERE BUT STILL THIS ONE IS FUN AND SOMETIMES YOU JUST TOTALLY WANNA SEE SOME JACK ASS GET KILLED IN AS GRUESOME AND AS PREDICTABLY AS THIS. THE PAY OFF IS KNOWING THE OUTCOME BEFORE HE DOES!

Phase 1:start a glass-bottom boat service. phase 2:? phase 3=profit?. seriously now,i love killer sea creature stories,in fact this reminds me of an experience i had at the Monterey bay aquarium once where this kid who kept throwing crap into a shark tank almost fell in.also, this story woulda made a great LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS type comedy.
