The Lonely

Ahhh, beautiful blue sky, crystal clear ocean waves, warm sandy beach, and a stinking rotten corpse that just won‘t go away… perfect! This is easily one of my all-time favorite Howard Nostrand yarns.

From the February 1954 issue of Black Cat Mystery #48

And now this is easily one of my favorite Nostrand stories too!

Thank you for the great post!

I always loved the cover of this issue but have never owned a copy.

Yes, I saw the Jack Davis influence right away. This could have been an EC story, probably in Crime or Shock Suspenstories.

On a completely unrelated note, it looks like Olympian Publishing has finally updated their website RE Chamber of Mystery: Voodoo. It is now listed as a "Spring 2008" release. It is right between a March and a June release so it looks like an April or May release is now planned.

Mammoth Book of Best Horror Stories is listed as 1/24 release but that may be tentative or for UK only.

There was supposed to be another reprint volume around this month called Sex, Drugs, and Violence but it is no longer listed where I found it originally (it was supposed to be mostly crime but was to have some PCH).

I'm one day behind you with a Nostrand story, but check out Pappy's today for a Nostrand humor story.

"The Lonely" is one of the greatest comic book horror stories I've ever seen.

To my other blog visitors, if you've never been to Pap's place then you should check out, he's got alot of great pre-code horror stories and wild samplings from every other genre too:
