Edge of Darkness

Witchcraft Week continues with a moody entry from Standard Comics' November 1953 issue of The Unseen #12. It's probably not historically correct either like some of you were complaining about in our last post, but Mike Roy's fun style and his occasional textless panels really brings this one alive.

THOIA NEWS!

The Horrors Of It All recently entered in at number 116 in the Wikio Literature blog catagory rankings, (this is one of the new categories created by Wikio for the month of October.) Wikio is "the number 1 news aggregator and blog-indexing website in Europe, indexing nearly 200,000 English-language sources," so of course THOIA is incredibly honored to be on this list (and so near the Top 100 too!) Thanks to Charbel Sfeir for emailing me the news, and of course to all you readers who continue to sadistically support THOIA. ---Karswell

Remember, only you can set forest fires that prevent witches!

Great stuff, and who the hell reads pre-code horror for a history lesson?

Lily the Bear hath spoken!

>who the hell reads pre-code horror for a history lesson?

That's what I say.

You're right, Karswell -- the brash art and "silent panels" make this one. It's got a good fairy tale feel to it.

MIKE ROY WOULD HAVE FIT IN GOOD AT HARVEY COMICS ALONG SIDE LEE ELIAS AND NOSTRAND WITH THAT THICK LINE STYLE. GREAT STUFF KARSWELL AND CONGRATS ON THE WIKIO RANKING TOO!

Holy mackerel! That cover IS great! Thanks for the tip, Trevor M. And you gotta love that the woman is wearing her Sunday gloves out in the swamp. Gotta say, that guy and gal sure have a Nick Cardy look to them. He did do some work for Standard, so who knows?

You all know that every story I post always includes the link to GCD (or Atlas Tales) which in turn features the cover art and other info about the issue itself right? Just click the highlighted text in my intros before the first scan, if there is available info on said issue you'll find it there.

I have another story from Standard up next, this time a submission about a hideous gypsy curse! Hang tight, it's coming...

Karswell: Congratulations on the wonderfully high ranking in Wikio. That's quite an accomplishment and very high ranking considering the massive number of sources indexed! The honor is certainly well deserved and you should be very proud. -- Mykal
