Tale #3 from the October 1953 issue of Mysterious Adventures #16 is a seriously demented piece of unstoppable violence, punctuated with some really great sound FX--- “Hack! Chop! Rip! Crack! Slash! Crunch! Snap! AGHHHHH!”
This is the stuff that defined the Comics Code.

What aline-up of artists this book has. The first looked like eitherRoss Andru or the team of Goldfarb Bear to me. The second surely must have been a Ros Andru job, possibly inked by Mike Esposito. I just love his funny realistic style from this period. Today we have another great story, possibly by Lawrence or Ravielli. I can't wait to see what tomottow brings.
Wow, 1951. Surprised the Senate took so long to act. Crunch, crunch.
THIS IS ONE HELL OF A WILD ISSUE AND LIKE YOU SAID THIS STORY REALLY PACKS IN THE VIOLENCE! THIS ONE ACTUALLY GAVE ME CHILLS BUT WAS FUNNY AT THE SAME TIME. I NOTICE THE BLOOD IN THESE STORIES ISN'T REALLY RED THOUGH MORE LIKE PINK. DO YOU THINK THEY MUTED THE COLOR ON PURPOSE?
>I can't wait to see what tomottow brings.
Tomottow we have another violent tomato of a tale, I guarantee! (sorry Ger, couldn't resist.)
>Wow, 1951.
The Mysterious Adv series started in 1951, issue #16 hit stands in Oct 1953, just when the code fiasco was probably heating up.
>DO YOU THINK THEY MUTED THE COLOR ON PURPOSE?
Good question... it's not like it's a print error cuz look at the lusty red used in the title as well as in Reardon's agony filled AGHHHHH! on page 6. I deduct one point from this story now that you've pointed it out. Pink blood sucks!! But! I give the point back and add another 3 points for the severed hand on the floor that I didn't notice the first time--- AGHHHHH! Pain and agony filled indeed.
Nothing like a good solid "revenge from beyond the grave story". This one was great because while it may have been somewhat predictable, it didn't hold back in unleashing the vengeance in graphic detail. A winner as always Karswell!
This whole issue is a work of art that even surpasses EC.Thanks for posting this!
brutal, even with the bubblegum blood!
>brutal, even with the bubblegum blood!
Tomorrow's story has some bubblegum blood too, but at the same time earns a few extra points for containing a truly taboo murder collage panel. Come see it to believe it.
Hey, anyone know what happened to Mr. C?
fully agree, brutal but fun
Wow, that was graphic. Good read.
Indeed a graphic one. But somehow gruesomely humorous. Go Patch!
