Harvest of Death

The Dynamic Duo of Mort Meskin and George Roussos come together for our next violently bizarre tale, from the “lost” issue of Adventures into Darkness #15.

One more "lost" story to go tomorrow…

TOMORROW: More Meskin and Roussos!

++++++++++++++++++++++

PLUS: A 1 page bonus filler and a 2 page text story

+++++++++++++++++++++++

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

And in stores today, two obscure Mexican genre classics on one DVD from Navarre! El Hombre Que Logro Ser Invisible (’58) is basically a spanish cast remake of Universal’s The Invisible Man Returns with supposedly pretty good FX, while La Isla De Los Dinosaurios (’67) finds an exploration team trapped (where else?) on a forgotten island and battling all kinds of prehistoric dangers.

Not sure if this DVD is dubbed or if it even has English subs, but you can hardly beat the $6.99 price tag for two alarmantes peliculas! Click HERE for more info and to order!

Stupid Karl!. Didn't he ever take sanguinary gardening 101? when you need to grow vampire vegetation you always bump off your local asshole dentist!. Jeez, people can be dense. Kidding, really liked the story and art, Rousso's inks are great too, enough that i'm actually willing to overlook those issues of FANTASTIC FOUR he murdered. Never heard of either of the two Mexican movies, but the titles and the special effects rumors sound intriguing. Definitely gonna check it out.

Ach ja! Alvays we fertilize mit BLOOD.

"That field once produced the best WINE in the world..."

"The blood... helped this field grow a rare and wonderful WINE."

Author of story did not know that fields grow GRAPES. Word GRAPES appears nowhere in story. Ach! Fields that grow WINE much RARE indeed!

Just so happens I am now drinking much WINE while reading story.

Much wine come from GRAPES, no?

Ja, ja! Wine come from GRAPES! SHIT, JA!

Karl is the stupidest main character I have seen here, but two or three of his crazed expressions compensate nicely.

As easily as he died, couldn't he have just let everyone he killed trip over the same bit of barbed wire and bleed to death? Or did the narrator neglect to mention Karl had hemophilia?

Okay, Karl is a few bottles shy of a full case of wine, but still, what a concept. (Forget that this mini-field wouldn´t even provide enough grapes for 10 bottles, lol)
To see the bodies being dragged across the earth, so effective in b/w. Color would have killed the impact.

And the dialoge is soo great. "Now I´ll drain your blood over my fields! Soon I´ll be rich and famous!" Ah, there is nothing like a delusional madman *g

Fabulous entry.

The text story was kind of by the numbers, how often was this plot used. Still, it had some nice bits of writing. "Her eyes bulged, her face turned dark - His fat throat ... was clear in the moonlight" Rather graphic for its time, I would think.

ITS ALMOST A TRAVESTY THAT THIS ISSUE NEVER GOT PUBLISHED, ALL THE STORIES ARE SO MUCH FUN AND THE ART TERRIFIC. I WENT BACK AND RE READ A BUNCH OF THOSE STANDARD STORIES YOU POSTED AT THE END OF NOVEMBER....... GREAT STUFF.

I don't know if it's so much that Karl is stupid (he starts off inspired and hopeful enough to do good with his wine vines) it just appears to me that he's suddenly possessed with some pre-code, er, overnight "King Complex." Top panels on page 5, looking down on the villagers. Yep. Money / madness changes everything.

Tomorrow: robot love!

I'm sorry, but Karl was a complete tool.

I must say--I've been loving the b&w art on these past few entries. Something about the stark look of uncolored pages really appeals to me! As to Karl, I can't help but think that the future generations will be doomed to repeat the blood ritual, seeing as how our guy met his doom in such a way that it's just continuing to nourish the fields. What a bummer!

VERY cool DVD rec, too. As to subs, it's in the international language of Mexploitation, so it'll be worth adding to my collection :)

What an usual tale, blood wine! And no vampires anywhere in sight either. I thought I knew where this one was going, the ghost ending felt tacked on but it was all so crazy and offbeat that it worked anyway.

I like the stark black and white line art too. In fact I would love to see some of the Fawcett and Ace stories without the terrible coloring.
