Sunday's the final day of Pierre's fabulous "Boris Karloff Blogathon" at Frankensteinia, and THOIA has one more Dick Briefer Frankenstein tale for you as well, this time from the earlier kids humor series, or more precisely the Nov-Dec 1946 issue of Frankenstein #5. And kudos again to Pierre on a tremendous job well done with the Blogathon too! See ya'll in Dec!
I love these DB Frankenstein comics. Thanks for sharing! "Dog-bit bat knees" sounds like one of those million dollar ideas you have in the middle of the night and write down on paper before you go back to sleep, and then the next morning when you're awake you reread it and it doesn't seem as hot.
Karswell, this was a wonderfully delightful story, thanks for sharing it. I love the way Frankenstein has his nostrills up above his eye-line. I love it when Fido bites the bats, and the one on the far right is in pain. Now where can I find me some Poopnoodles Whitewash-Glo tooth-paste? best, r/e
Karswell: I just love Briefer any way I can get him, and I do believe I prefer these comic Frankenstein stories to his serious take on the monster (although both are great). The looseness of the character design, the free, happy quality of the tone - and just look at those great Frankenstein hands! His great drawing skills are evident in every panel. This stuff just makes me happy. I even like it better that Stanley's Melvin the Monster, and that's saying something. What a great, lively story.
Love the ads. I had no idea "glow in the dark" was such a popular concept in this era. My favorite is the glow in the dark paint, allowing you to paint your crucifix, if you so desire. And that giant, plastic, glowing orchid is sure to set the right tone of sophisticated class for any home. -- Mykal
I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED THIS VERSION OF FRANKENSTEIN TOO AND THE MORE I LOOK AT IT THE MORE I THINK I AM STARTING TO LIKE IT EVEN MORE THAN THE MORE POPULAR LATER VERSION. GREAT STUFF KARSWELL, THANKS AS ALWAYS!!!
So where's Trevor on this post? haha... okay, glad everybody enjoyed this one, sometimes the more kid friendly stuff around here is hit and/or miss but I keep trying anyway. I appreciate all of you consistant, return commentors, you of course makes it more fun for me to know what you're thinking. Any suggestions you might have please don't hesitate to ask too!
So adios November and here comes cruel, cold December... but maybe it won't be so cold this year? If I have any say in it December is going to be one HOT mutha... so practice your "Hails" people, cuz 'Ol Scratch himself is coming for an extended visit next month.
Regarding the Vintage Ad page you scanned, I got a real laugh out of that "Girls Can't Resist this Kiss-Me Necktie." Oh boy, yeah it's true I'll admit: If ANY man put that necktie on, I wouldn't be able to restrain myself. :-p
And who would even want a glow-in-the-dark fake orchid? Lol...
He just got here and already he's thumbing through my comic book collection and singeing the corners. Fiery fingertips are of course never good for the bags and boards either!
I always wanted to know how to make my own gay nudie glasses.
I love this Briefer stuff. Either style is pretty much equally awesome to me. Every time I read a new one, of any era, I think it's got to be my new very favorite one. The man's a genius.

Beautiful!
Is that a 3rd eye or a nose?
The one chick (?) looks like Shaggy got a sex change and is anorectic. :-\
Blue people with warts. Lovely!
I really like this one's style -- the artwork is so refreshing! Great post, Mr. K!
