The Thirsty Idol / Haunted Houses

I don't know about you, but pouring human blood on anything to achieve something in return typically just seems like it's gonna be a bad idea. Case in point: today's saturated scare-o-rama illustrated by Rocco Mastroserio from the May 1953 issue of The Unseen #10. And you, dear lady, might I add-- are no Indiana Jones! I've also rounded out today's rollickin' sadventure with a haunted one page quickie, also by Rocco.

Ghoul Crazy

It's Father's Day, and what's the one thing that most dads want on this day more than anything else? I mean besides money. That's right-- GIRLS! So let's rip open the August 1953 issue of Mysterious Adventures #15, fire up Rotley Grue's "Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls" on the old turntable, and see how the holiday ends for our hero in this traumatizing tale of untamed lust.

More bowling horror! Dad's love bowling!

Night Owl

Is there a genre for gory bowling themed horror? Well, there is now! Originally presented in the July 1954 issue of Horrific #6, (art by Marty Elkin), we actually reprinted this one in the June 2013 issue of Haunted Horror #5 and it's seriously one of the most insanely entertaining tales you've ever seen coming from a mile away-- twist ending wise, that is!

The Phantom of Lonesome Swamp!

As I've been mentioning all this month, our new Classic Monsters of Pre-Code Horror Comics collection, SWAMP MONSTERS, is finally surfacing in just a few days, and aside from all of the great tales we have included from: Basil Wolverton, Jack Katz, Lin Streeter, Harry Harrison, Ken Landau and lots more-- you're also going to love Stephen Bissette's incredible introduction! And today's full story preview is one that is indeed included in the collection, and is one of three Lou Cameron swamp creatures to be featured! I posted this one here way back in 2010 as well, so long-time THOIA followers consider this an encore presentation! And be sure to pick-up / order SWAMP MONSTERS --COMING JUNE 12th everywhere that great books are sold! More info *HERE!

Flee the Mad Furies

Attractive good girl art by Alex Blum highlights this odd little supernatural tale of witchcraft and murder, from the Fall 1952 issue of Ghost Comics #4. Actually a reworked "Ghost Gallery" story from Jumbo Comics #81, this is yet another spooker that, despite all of those lovely long legs and negligee panels, didn't quite make the Swamp Monsters book cut.

The Green Ones

The screams from the sickening, steamy old swamp continue with an eerie Marty Elkin transformation creature feature classic from the May 1954 issue of Horrific #11. I kind of wish we'd used this one in the Swamp Monsters book, but it's very similar in theme to a few other tales featured... and yes, you'll just have to get yourself a copy to see what I mean! Screams in the Swamp

Things are gonna get swampy around here for the next few posts, because as some of you are already aware, our new SWAMP MONSTERS collection (IDW / Yoe Books) will finally surface this month --just click HERE to order your copy and get more information! And here's the creeping, crawling cover with a horrifically hand lettered title by electrifying Eric Rot:

And say, do you need an example of what's to be found this time around? Click HERE and HERE for a taste!

And in the meantime, I thought I'd share some other swamp horror tales that didn't quite make the cut for the book... this doesn't mean they were unworthy or lacked a certain sort of foggy boggy woggy woo-- they mostly just didn't fit in our newly formatted / limited page count. So put your ear to the peat moss and listen closely... can you hear it? Can you?! It's coming! Yes, this soggy scream dream doggy paddles into your lives from the July 1953 issue of Haunted Thrills #10.
