The Werewolf of Wetheridge

Werewolf Wednesdays return! And I'm guessing a few of you may have picked up on my hint about a "super September" in the previous post intro last month, and that's 100% spot on, because we will be looking at Super Hero Horror occasionally this month, just as we've done a few times in the past. Yep, you may hate supes now, but just wait until Mr. Karswell gets done with you! Annnd another few of you may start reading today's post and have a massive wave of deja vu hit ya over the noggin'. That's because this Lash Lightning and Lightning Girl tale from the November 1945 issue of Four Favorites #20 is an almost direct story swipe of the Gail Porter "Werewolf of Woonsocket" yarn that I posted HERE back in January. Don't believe me? Compare 'em! The Gail Porter story may have been published first (and maybe even have a more uniquely illustrated werwolf), but she's definitely no lovely Lightning Girl, who just so happens to also be illustrated by the ever impeccable, THOIA fan fave, Nina Albright. Duke of Darkness vs. Professor Evil

As some of you already know, I like to throw a superhero horror tale atcha here every once in a while to keep things interesting. And this one is not only very innnnteresting, it's also The Duke of Darknessessess's very first action-packed appearance, --and it's all pretty damn funny too! From the October 1945 issue of K-O Komics #1 (PLEASE NOTE that I usually link to the GCD issue info here, but it doesn't seem to be responding at the moment for whatever reason, and you definitely don't want to miss the great Jack Kirby cover on this one too!) Anyway, if you're one to skip these horror hero posts because you're too cool 'n snobby, then I beg you to reconsider and at least give it a try, it's tons of fun (and funny), especially if you enjoy supernatural stuff like The Spirit, or The Spectre. Did I mention this story is also funny?

Maker of Monsters!

One last post for October 2024, and of course as promised, it's the fourth and final petrifyin' Plastic Man horror tale, as part of our "Spotlight Character of the Month!" And like our las Plas story, it's also from the March 1953 issue of Plastic Man #40 (what an issue btw!) and features even more incredible, action packed monster art mayhem, and laugh-out-loud lines of dialog. So before you make yourself up into a monster for Halloween tonight, read "Maker of Monsters!" --and we'll see you all next month for lots more too! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Ghoul of Ghost Swamp!!

Time for our third round of "Plas 'n Woozy Meet the Monsters" this month, as we continue plastically pummelin' onward with a super soggy, ghoulishly ghostly, and horrifically humorous entry from the March 1953 issue of Plastic Man #40. And if I've planned out this month correctly, we should have one more action-packed adventure before Halloween hits! CRACK!

The Hounds of Horror!

Time for another petrifyin' installment of Plastic Man, this month's "Spotlight Character" vs. the super duper natural, and like the previous Plas entry HERE, this tale also comes from the January 1953 issue of Plastic Man #39. Fun stuff as ever, with all the great artwork and Bill Woolfolk writing you've come to expect from this classic series. And if that big 'ol loomin' full moon on nearly every page below doesn't get you into the Halloween spirit, --ya better check your pulse!

The Stairway to Madness!

As many of you know I don't really post a lot of superhero stuff here, and when I do it's usually a tale involving some type of supernatural shenanigans, explainable or not. A perfect example is this fantastically illustrated / written satanic haunted house story from the January 1953 issue of Plastic Man #39, --one that concludes leaving even Plas scratchin' his 'ol rubber noggin' in perplexity! Spooky, funny, and just non-stop great dialog, art, and action-- plus since it's October I've decided to make Plastic Man the "Spotlight Character of the Month" and give you a few more of his eeriest adventures sprinkled around for the next few weeks-- so stay tombed for that! Did anyone ever dress up as Plastic Man for Halloween?
