The Complete Voodoo Vol. 3: Werewolf Castle

Werewolf Wednesdays are back, (and as usual, a day late) just as is another installment of The Chilling Archives of Horror Comics: The Complete Voodoo Volume 3 from IDW / Yoe Books-- in stores NOW --get it HERE along with the other 2 va-va-volumes! Collecting issues #13 - 19, this is a wild wind-down of horrific precode horrors and jittery jungle thrills (lots of super sexy good girl art too) and plenty of scary silliness as well, plus a great intro by my good friend, Mike "The Howler" Howlett of Eerie Pub claim 'n fame. I mean seriously, how can you go wrong with a collection of stories with titles like "Screaming Shoes", "Corpses... Coast to Coast!", "Ape's Laughter", and (giggle) "Dead Man's Pajamas!"

"Werewolf Castle" was originally presented in the December 1954 issue of Voodoo #18.

Entertaining and atmospheric with a great dose of cornball, I liked it. But I was confused at the end. How did getting bit by the vampire turn the man into a werewolf? And shouldn't the wife have been the one turned into a werewolf? It was set up like that!

Haha, good point... but like most of the stories from this publisher-- ANYTHING GOES! :)

Not sure what happened with the formatting and colors here on this post this afternoon, I'm glad I came back and double checked it. Everything should be fixed now. Let me know if anyone is having issues of how this post is displaying. Thanks!

The white faces -- especially page 2, panel 5, make everybody look like evil clowns! This is your most clever tie it yet, Karswell!

What I am disappointed by is that you too have joined the forces destroying archiving of comics! Certainly, hundreds upon hundreds of publishers were going to be creating books exclusively for Werewolf Castle and now that's all dust! Thanks a lot! :)

BTW, there were never any rules established about what this curse entails. Can they just leave? It's never explained. The woman is out in the sun so that's not a problem. This actually seems a bit less curse-y than the story would have us believe!

Magnificent! I want to go back through and erase all the original words and replace them with Rocky Horror dialog.

" There's a liiiiight,
Over at the lychanthrope plaace...

We can just go ahead and do that with every post on here :)

I knew not to expect such a thing, but the story has a real wife-swapping comedy vibe.
If it had been a comedy, and a "light" horror comedy instead of a dark one, it could've been a happy ending for all four of them for that reason. Like some NIGHT GALLERY story, especially one of the little blackouts on that show.

At least in this horror tale they feature a Wolfman that looks like a man with a wolf's head rather than the Lon Chaney style of werewolf head. A wolf headed man seems more menacing.

If nothing else, these nonsensical plot comics are the best comics, like the B or Z grade horror flicks, they are entertaining but for the wrong reasons.

So the guy's a werewolf now. What exactly is the problem?
