HALLOWEEN GIVE-AWAY WINNER! + Wooden Man

Mandy Morgue from Chunky, MS is our winner of the IDW / Yoe Books Chilling Archives of Horror Comics Halloween Give-Away! Congratulations, Mandy, we've just embalmed you alive with a complete set of Chilling Archive hardcovers: Dick Briefer's Frankenstein, Bob Powell's Terror, Zombies, Jack Cole's Deadly Horror, and the soon to be released Haunted Horror 1-3 Collection! To everyone else that entered-- remember to check the other contest sponsors to see if you too have won, so start clicking HERE: IDW PUBLISHING, YOE BOOKS, All Things Ger, and Four Color Shadows! Don't see your name? Don't fret! We have lots more contests on the haunted horizon, and / or of course you can always order these creeptacular collections online, or at your local comics dealer! Thanks again to everyone that entered, and especially to all of our wonderfully weird and incredibly generous sponsors! Oh, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN from all of us at THE HORRORS OF IT ALL!

THOIA just wouldn't be complete without a pre code horror tale... see, my son decided at the last minute to change his Mine Craft halloween costume into a terrifying ventriloquist dummy (thanks  Goosebumps Slappy!), so here we have the perfect tale to send shivers up your spine, just like a cold, manipulative hand entering you from behind to... uhhh... man, let's just read the story!

From the May 1952 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #6.

Looks like they beat Alfred Hitchcock to the story "The Glass Eye" by about 5 years...

Somebody in a position of power needs get Marvel to put these in a Masterwork edition.

One thing I liked about Atlas was they knew not to stretch out a story with a concept like this too much. There's no need for sub-plots, this one is all ending. Keep it short and punchy.

Happy Halloween, everybody, congrats Mandy, and Kars, your son is really taking off after his father! I don't know if that's a good or bad thing!

After reading this shortie, I'm left thinking that the ugly bat-eared midget got off lucky. That chick was clearly insane and would have destroyed his life. Who falls madly in love with someone only based picture on a show poster having never seen or heard them in person? And then pursues them from city to city, completely obsessed? Even though that person runs from them when they try and get intimate and, damn, wears a horrific dummy on his hand 24/7 and speaks with it? Clearly only a lunatic would do that.

A really twisted twist ending would be if at the end of the story a door opened up in the lady's middle and out popped a female version of the puppet master.

"I knew who and what you were, that's why I wouldn't leave you" would be her reply.

And they both lived hideously ever after...

I didn't know this story came BEFORE "The Glass Eye," as brandiweed says.
Of course, there are some big differences. The Glass Eye causes you to have a lot of sympathy for the "real ventriloquist" at the end, and this version leaves that out.
Also, it only shows both characters sitting in the dressing room and on stage. This version kind of glosses over how "Ventro" is able to get to the restaurant, and run away from the table.

Indeed, many pre code comic stories are based on weird tales from the pulps and early fiction era, same as many great tv episodes of the 50's and 60's
