Lord of the Tattered Realm

Ending 2011 with one final Ace tale, the magnificently illustrated "Lord of the Tattered Realm" from the Aug '54 issue of Hand of Fate #24. See you all in 2012, and as always, keep those comments and emails coming-- lots of big things in store for THOIA and precode horror fans in the coming year!

Man, I wish terror would dodge my heels.

This was a very fetching marriage between excellent art and quirky colors, one of the better looking stories I've seen from the pages of the Hand of Fate--which is really sayin' something. I liked the writing too. The story was pretty par for the course, but the delivery--and the paper voodoo dolls, shudder--was really great. Way to end the year with a real firecracker, Karswell.

Happy 2012!

I think Ace was one of the more experimental publishers, it seems to me that went out of their way to create different stories than the typical horror norm. Sometimes they succeeded, like with this tale, but when they didn't, at least the art was always great to look at... and serious bonus points for trying.

ACE horror comic books are disregarded and underrated.
I scanned a lot of them and uploaded them on Digital Comic Museum.
They're almost complete!
I've been reading ALL of them and could identify most of the artists.
Finishing up the last issues on Grand Comics Database.
In spring 2012 I will present a in-depth-look on a new website dedicated to ACE horror.
And posting the most interesting stories.
That's my promise for next year.
I'm thrilled that you keep up your fine work on THOIA. Always a pleasure. You inspire us.

What a great story about not taking shortcuts to goals. If you do, you never really make it even if others think you have and it will catch up with you.

Far, far better it is to find another way to succeed than to create an illusion with a lie.

You know, as a child no one thought me other than meshuges for seeing things like this. To them, especially the adults, there was only the superficial to behold.
