Lou Cameron's Unsleeping Dead

In stores NOW is another fine hardcover collection from our Chilling Archives of Horror Comics line, and this time it's another spotlight artist edition focused solely on the one and only ::drumroll:: Lou Cameron! If you've followed this blog over the years then his name already means something wonderfully weird and extra special to you, and we at IDW / Yoe Books are SUPER excited about this horrifically fun, monster overload-- featuring 144 pages of slammin' jammin' Cameron! Click HERE to order your copy NOW! And as always, THOIA has a FULL STORY example of Lou's extremely delirious output, a rather biting little werewolf tale with a very different twist! Get it NOW!

("Fangs of the Fiend" originally appeared in the July 1954 issue of The Beyond #27.)

The Horror of Hillory Hill

I thought I had already posted this Lou Cameron tale here at THOIA, (it gets harder and harder to keep track of these things!), but we simply put it in the Lou Cameron's Unsleeping Dead Chilling hardcover collection (still available HERE!) Despite a few wonderfully goofball moments with the script, Lou's sense of cinematic angles, detail, and eerie atmosphere really send this one over the top-- and that climax is a doozy! From the July 1954 issue of Baffling Mysteries #21.

Over My Dead Body

The fun(eral) is about to being, with another attempt at the 'ol burial for bucks routine, courtesy of the September 1954 issue of Baffling Mysteries #22. And as always with the great Lou Cameron, we get lots of superb visual moments and odd angles to really liven up the perspective, giving aid to this swingin' wakes' slow descent into one Hell of a party! We liked this luridly lousy love triangle so much, we made sure to include it in our chilling Lou Cameron's Unsleeping Dead hardcover collection-- go and get yourself a copy HERE!

The Witching Well

Like Rudy Palais, I also get a lot of requests for Lou Cameron stories, and here's a supernaturally charged selection from the June 1952 issue of The Beyond #12. Has everyone pre-ordered Lou Cameron's Unsleeping Dead collection coming out in Spring 2018? Click HERE for more info!

He Who Robs the Dead

Lou Cameron returns to THOIA today with a brilliant pre-code zombie shocker. Nice use of bones for panel borders on a few of the pages here, typically clever of Lou… artistic touches like this is what put Cameron miles above most of the other contributors working at Ace. Also, I apologize for the rat chews on the top corners of each page; you’ll have to fill in a couple narrative blanks here and there yourself, but overall you shouldn’t have any real trouble following the story. And if you do I'll give you a full goddamn refund.

The Tomb of Terror

Most of us typically associate Lou Cameron with his amazing output of precode horror for Ace Magazines. But here he is at American Comics Group, churning out the same top-notch terrors, even though it's all wrapped up in the usual ACG "lover's in peril" plot. Lou really gives it the 110% treatment too with his weird monsters, great eye for cinematic framing, and highly detailed backgrounds. It's a fun, fast-paced romp from the March - April 1952 issue of Forbidden Worlds #5.

Creature of Evil / The Moon Was Red

It's been a long time since we've done a comparison between a pre-code horror classic vs. its later black and white Eerie Publication remake. So here's a good one, and this time I'll bypass the link to the story I originally posted back in 2011 and just re-post it here again after the remake. "Creature of Evil" from the March 1971 issue of Terror Tales #V3#2 is a complete re-draw of Lou Cameron's mind-bending monster masher "The Moon Was Red" (originally presented in the May 1953 issue of Web of Mystery #18.) See which one you like better-- being a complete Cameron fanatic, you already know my answer! Enjoy, and maybe we'll do a few of these comparisons for the next couple of posts-- sound good?
