Evil Intruder

Since announcing our new HAUNTED LOVE mini-series debuting this Feb 2016 (IDW / Yoe Books), I've been swamped with emails from HAUNTED HORROR and WEIRD LOVE fans from all over. The biggest concern seems to be coming from the horror fans (of course) that aren't into romance comics, and I'm here to assure you fiends that while HAUNTED LOVE walks the wicked fine line between both titles, it's definitely way more on the horror side than the romance! The stories are being picked by Mr. Karswell himself after all-- so don't get your burial panties in a bunch! Okay, do we need an example of the type of hairy-scary story you'll find within each issue? Here's a good 'n goofy one from the March '53 issue of Journey into Fear #12, and seriously, if this one doesn't get you in the mood for some extra haunted, whacked-out weird lovin'-- then nothing will!

By now I'm sure everyone has seen the silly/fake "Starring on LOVE BOAT" photoshop hilarity floating around Facebook and wherever else you boils and ghouls haunt the web. I thought I'd join in the fun with my own monster mash-up featuring my favorite horror movie theme-- CREEPSHOW! Might be even more fun to make a contest out of it-- sooooooo anyone with clever ideas on how the stories from the movie would translate if they actually took place on a cruise ship on the high seas gets themselves a FREE copy of HAUNTED HORROR. Have fun, and extra points awarded for anything that makes me wanna barf overboard!

THOIA returns after taking a rather forced holiday breather, plus a plethora of sexy side projects put our ever lovin' blog on the back burner for a week or so, not to mention the myriad of technical difficulties, and well... oh Hell, let's just get on with the story, shall we? How about a slithery Jim McLaughlin chiller from the Nov. '53 issue of The Beyond #23 to drag us back from the dead?

The Crate

With Halloween right around the corner, I see a ton of "essential holiday horror movies" lists apparently compiled by people with a very narrow sense of The Horror Film. Yes yes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, Psycho, Halloween etc., all incredible classics, ok? We get it. We've seen 'em though, and we've seen 'em a million times. Now another incredible film that I've personally seen a billion times is George Romero's Creepshow (1982), but somehow this film is strangely always absent from these "must see" hipster film lists. WTF?!! And like Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (another oddly slapped 'n shunned film), I can't think of a better movie for horror amateurs to get turned onto this season than the one with the five jolting Stephen King tales of terror! Seriously people, get your act together and revisit Creepshow, aside from the 70's Amicus EC adaptations, there's never been a better anthology horror movie ever made about horror comic books! Need something to refresh your rotten memory? How about the snarling, gore drenched centerpiece to the film, the one that made everyone in the world stop loving and start loathing Adrianne Barbeau-- The Crate! And how about Berni Wrightson's awesome version of it from the Creepshow graphic novel! If you need more reminders you can always revisit "Father's Day" and "Something to Tide You Over" in the THOIA archive, just click on the titles!

Haunted Horror... Love?!

It's seems that the Haunted Horror Vol. 3 hardback "Pre-Code Comics So Good, They're Scary" (collecting issues 7-9) has jumped the gun and found it's way into a few stores already despite the November 5th release date ???!!! AIEEEE!!! It's another perplexing Palais story for you today --and WTF, I totally thought I had posted this tale before, but it turns out there was just another story with the same title! So yeah, Rudy really delivers the grotesque monstrosity in this one... it's so weird in fact that by comparison, Frankenstein's monster is a mere piker! From the November 1953 issue of Horrific #8.
