It's been a number of years since we've seen a macabre Matt Fox freak-out here at THOIA, so how about a really oddball one from the ominous October 1954 issue of Mystery Tales #22 to totally get your skin a'crawlin'! Yes, we finally get August 2022 rollin' into fear... errr, gear, --stay tombed for lots more!

OK that one is really different!
I really like "Concrete Forest of the Dead." I don't call out the great turn of phrases enough.
OK, praise to Fox, he does an excellent job of dimensions here. When the husband shrinks, he really looks small, and the insects really look big. I know that seems simple, but there's a lot of artist who can get this look strangely wrong.
I love how craggy everybody is in this. Minor complaint: coloring on the first page is a bit strange.
Neat sidebar from the annals of mad science: The crazy exterminator. In his zeal to destroy bugs he has mastered all of chemistry in a successful effort to invent formulae to first enlarge, and then reduce, the physical bodies of the bugs he wishes to kill. That his reasoning seems specious is immaterial, because his next, rather offhand, step is to give the world insecticide. Sadly, the predicable conclusion of his earlier experiments do thwart this last, crucial invention. Luckily, pesticides had already been invented by Sumerians some forty-four hundred years before he was born. Whew, that was a close one!
The real horror here is the domestic violence, though.
Praise to Fox indeed, he's one of the most unique artists of the 50's.
And praise to the person who originally invented pesticides as well, haha... what would life be today without it?
Dug up another great Kirk of Scotland Yard stories-- coming up next.
And as always thanks for the comments :)
