Many of you seem to enjoy these Horrors on the High Seas posts, and we've got another one sailing your way now from the March - April 1952 issue of Witchcraft #1 from Avon. No art credit listed at GCD, though I'm fairly certain this is Harry Lazarus...

Honestly, I've been reading this blog for years and I think that's the first time I've seen a zombie straight up punch a guy in the face! I know it's more than likely not, but I swear it's the first zombie sucker punch!
The art is good in this, but the daughter's dress is interesting, I'm pretty sure it's a lift from a famous actress or model of the day, or maybe from one of the universal horror films. I know I recognize it.
It's a good read but it has that weird pre-code zombie/ghost logic, where the monster is at times a ghost, and a times a zombie.
I really like those busy storm panels at the top of page three. That's some emotional stuff. I also like the whacked-out cover on this issue. Bottled werewolf? We'll make a mint!
To be honest, I didn't know this tradition. Quite convenient for the captain who has a woman in every port. The cop's line in page 4 is somehow funny: "It's Dr. Livingston, Barton ...(I presume)". Maybe Livingston is supposed to be his first name, but it made me think of Livingstone.
Great story. Love shipboard tales. Trying to remember another ship tale. I think it had a splash page with ghouls/zombies with long stick arms but no hands. This ring a bell with anyone? It's really bugging me that I can't think of this one.
