The Haunted Recording

After two marathonic months of Atlas, it's now time to get back to the assorted ghoulishness of some of the other pre-code publishers, and there's no better place to start than with a haunting ACE classic from the March 1953 issue of The Beyond #19. So turn it up!

(I've posted these before, but seriously now, what better ads are there to re-post with a story about a haunted recording?)

Wow. These stories are the best. Thanks for showing them to another generation!

Man! That's quite an unpleasant fate for an accidental killing. More directors should work that way, it'd get some real decent performances in modern horror films. For better or Vorse, I say. I guess you can always expect somenthing interesting when the first page features a brutal murder in two panels!

Great color scheme too, and as easily as it could have been omitted, the graveyard full of angry relatives was a nice touch.

And from now on I'm calling all zombies 'Eerie lookin' Critters', too.

"For better or Vorse" LOL!

Poor Rex was trying to make good in the end, but fate...er...Mari made sure he didn't get off easy. Was there more going on with him strangling her in the first place? He calls her "honey" but has a fiance somewhere else. An affair? Wonder if they captured those sounds on vinyl!

Ah, the snuff album. The fifties latest in a grand tradition including snuff microfiche, snuff pamphlets, and snuff tablets. Seems like every generation has its own death-on-media urban legends ranging from snuff petroglyphs to the snuff internet. Will we ever learn?

An example.

Capturing the supernatual on, or as a recording is a cool concept, made most famously I guess from The Ring movies. If anyone has a chance to see a British television production called The Stone Tape I highly recommend it.

Got some Harvey horrors lined up next... thanks for the comments.

as a fan and collector of "Horror-Sounds", this post shall forever be held close to my heart.

re: Mr. Cavin's snuff album- indeed, this shall be the new conspiracy theory. "HORROR-SOUNDS ARE PEOPLE!...BEING KILLED 'N' STUFF!"

Its part of the tradition I know but I love Rex's running commentary on the events of his life - its like "Got out of bed - making coffee - need it - finally in the car - getting stressed with this traffic" - etc...
