First; Best Lettering Ever for the title. Second; That's the best casting job i've ever seen you do, i wasn't even gonna try, but oh well. Dan Castallenetta and Julie Kavner as the Simpsons(ha!), Michael Ripper as Mort(looks nothing like the character, but does a hilarious drunk voice.)with a very young, thin Peter Lorre as John(say the last line in his voice,brrr.). But those actors you chose are so appropriately spot-on it's scary.
Hope you find the artist. Whoever it is has a talent for drawing seriously unpleasant people.
Ghastly. How is the rest of this issue?
Okay, so I like the story a lot--a pair of more affectionate baddies I've never seen! ("Pumpkin!" "Sweets!" "Dove!" "Peaches!")--a nice little gruesome turn at the end, and some great art throughout.
And I also have to say that physically, you've cast the story pretty well (although you missed Friedrich March as Mr. Hyde in a cameo at the bottom of pg. 3)--however, if it were Jose Mojica Marins as Dr. Mort, he'd insist the story would be different: he'd be playing drunk as part of his plan to ACTUALLY release Typhoid in Chicago and thus find the Superior Woman to bear his super-seed--and of course that woman is John's wife, who's immune. QED.
(BTW, not to nitpick, but that picture you link to is *NOT* Coffin Joe--it's Ray Castille, operator of the Museum of Monster Toys, who played young Coffin Joe in Mojica's upcoming movie! In fact, that pic is one of his Halloween costume photos he posted on the web that got Mojica's attention in the first place and led to his casting. Interesting story.)
Moral: never sit in a train car with a man who has no upper lip, no matter how lonely he seems.
THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST SPLASH TITLES I'VE EVER SEEN WITH ALL THOSE SCREAMING FACES. AND YOU DID CAST THIS ONE PERFECTLY......... I'D DEFIITELY PAY GOOD MONEY TO SEE A MOVIE WITH COFFIN JOE AND ZACHERLY IN IT!
I'll third the kudos on the title treatment here, someone really rose to the typhoidian occasion.
>How is the rest of this issue?
It's an okay issue, one of the Dick Briefer stories I have ready for tomorrow is also from this one, the remaining stories are typical sci-fi spaceship type tales, not bad though not up to THOIA horror standards. There's actually one up on ebay right now and the guy also just so happens to show images from the two stories I'm posting:

And thanks for the heads up Vicar on that Coffin Joe photo, I totally could not tell the difference between Ray and Jose. The linked image has been switched. Now I know how Shari felt when I crabbed at her for posting a picture of Lisa Marie as Vampira last summer. Sorry darlin'!
Poor Mary Mallon. All she wanted to do in life was cook for other people, and it was the one thing she would not be allowed to do.
Fun story, chief!
The second panel in the second page makes me think it might be an atypical sample of Tony DiPreta's work. Maybe inked by someone else?
the most casual twist ending ever!
"oh, those people are going to die horribly!"
"yep..."
>atypical sample of Tony DiPreta's work.
I was thinking the same thing about some of the Dr Mortimer faces on page two. DiPreta usually signs his stuff though, unless of course it was inked by someone else. Thanks Ger!
