Here are the two non-Venus filler tales from Venus #17 and #19: "The Madman's Music" with spooky art by Pete Morisi, and "The Storm!" illustrated by Allen Bellman --a couple of simply told Atlas quickies revealing what eerily awaits below the earth, and the ocean.
I love these old comics you keep digging up.

(Tried this yesterday; here goes again!)

The second story reminds me of a story I read a few years ago about a man who (as a boy) falls in love with a mermaid he sees as a small boy. Well; yesrs later, as a man, he meets her; and confesses his love, (long time to hold a torch, maybe?) Well; she confesses her love for him; and desires to "consumate the relationship" (WINK,WIINK, NUDGE, NUDGE!) To his surprise; he finds out that how merpeop0le "do it" is the same way fish do; (female lays eggs, male fertilizes *externally*!)

I really like the experimental color job on these--especially Johnny's half-blue hair. Actually all the art in that first story has charm. As art brut as it comes over, I suspect the artist was clutching the brush in his fist backwards.

ReplyDeleteThank Brian Hirsch for these as well, they're from the Venus issue scans he sent.

DB, you always "pull out" something interesting in these comments.
>As art brut as it comes over
Art Brute is a good description of Morisi's style, his stories are always tough as nails and hardboiled as Hell... he is the man behind Peter Canon Thunderbolt and Johnny Dynamite afterall!
Apologies to anyone who commented on this post and now find it gone... there was obviously some big balls up with blogger recently, as not only have random comments from you all (and myself) just evaporated, but it's been tough to even get the blogger dashboard to open just to simply upload new posts. I will try again later today, as well as over at AEET. Thanks, and once again sorry about the glitchies!
ReplyDeleteExcellent stuff.
ReplyDeletenice colors---and great ads too.
ReplyDeleteWow, that water drop was full of Sea Monkeys! How cool is that?
