I’m extending our bloated Vampire Week for one more day, right into Double Post Saturday because I think I’ve unearthed a couple fine specimens of the blood sucker genre from Harvey to grab you by the throat and never let a-go-go… A-Go-Go! A-GO-GO!!!
From the August 1954 issue of Witches Tales #26
HEE! FUN LITTLE POST, LOVE THE VAMPIRES SHOES IN THE SPLASH TOO! THIS ONE HAS ALL KINDS OF GREAT DETAIL AND FUNNY MAD STYLE HUMOR AND SIGHT GAGS. THE STYLIZED ART REMINDS ME OF GRANDANETTI
ReplyDeleteso does he eat his dad at the end?
ReplyDeleteFunny little story, even if the ghoul thing is kinda random.actually this is oddly prescient in it's way of Harvey's later supernatural humor characters.
ReplyDelete>FUNNY MAD STYLE HUMOR AND SIGHT GAGS
ReplyDeleteAs the pre-code era was coming under fire, many of the horror mags started lightening their issues with funnier, friendlier, more harmless stories like this... doesn't mean they're any less enjoyable though.
>so does he eat his dad at the end?
Yes.
>oddly prescient in it's way of Harvey's later supernatural humor characters.
True.
I read this as a gender-bender story. The son is not much of a "ghoul." He's really become a "girl." Anyone else agree?
ReplyDelete>He's really become a "girl."
ReplyDeleteI suppose you could interpret it that way... hee, another vampire flutters out of the closet.
Cute story. My favorite bit is the little picture of the dad vampire cheering after the title.
