Time for our third round of "Plas 'n Woozy Meet the Monsters" this month, as we continue plastically pummelin' onward with a super soggy, ghoulishly ghostly, and horrifically humorous entry from the March 1953 issue of Plastic Man #40. And if I've planned out this month correctly, we should have one more action-packed adventure before Halloween hits! CRACK!

"AND BEARS!" I laughed out loud, that's a great gag!
Some great lines from Woozy, some MAD Comic style signs (a couple years before MAD itself!), and some clever usages of his power (the fake tracking the ghoul, the foot underwater, etc.)
I appreciate Woozy but that man needs to realize Plas is only bringing him along as bait!
The evolution of Plastic Man after DC got ahold of him is interesting; in these older comics he's all business and Woozy is comic relief; in the later DC stuff he's a jokester (and Woozy is hanging out with Rex the Wonder Dog I suppose.)
BTW: For such a well drawn comic Plastic Man always had a really boring logo.
It's funny. I read about superheros pulling all kindsa hijinks and think nothing of it, but then knowing this one is on the government payroll I'm immediately all, like, "that's not probable cause! That's illegal search and that's brutality!" etc., etc. This paean to police overreach is basically authoritarian propaganda!
I kid! But really, none of this would stand up in court.
They just keep getting better and better, too. Man, somehow the art on this one is even more excellent it was the last one. All the energy and funny faces and swampy backgrounds are perfect. I laughed right out loud three different times on page two alone. "The Ghoul don't believe in Plastic Men!" That Gus Glumm is a scream.
Brian beat me to it, Plastic Man was an early version of Deadpool, being a wise guy in each adventure. And speaking of wise guys, some of the signs posted wouldn't be out of place in a three stooges short.
Howdy all, the cover, splash, and this being October Thoia had me convinced we were not getting a guy in a monster suit. Silly me and thank you Kars!
