The Drums of Cajou / Death Drum

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! How about a double header dose of voodoo drum doom on this special holiday-- two jungle jittery classics, again, from the Seduction of the Innocent reprint / recolor Eclipse Comics series of the 80's-- the first tale originally presented in the April 1953 issue of Out of the Shadows #8 with art by George Roussos, and the second story from the December 1952 issue of Adventures into Darkness #7illustrated by Artie Saaf.

Horror's Little Acre

Here's another nicely illustrated Standard Comics spooker loaded with chills and atmosphere, originally presented in the August 1952 issue of Adventures into Darkness #5, which is, (for anyone wishing to complain about scans on a FREE blog), another issue that I temporarily do not own. So! --from the completely acceptable re-colored version via Eclipse Comics' great 80's Seduction of the Innocent series (issue #2), and featuring fantastic artwork signed by Ruben Moreira.

Bride of Death

Time for a charming "love" story from the sincerely creepy pencil and inked stained mind of Jack Katz, (type his name into the THOIA search engine for more of his crazy work posted here over the years [or check our Artist cloud! -- Nequam]) --this tale was originally presented in the December 1952 issue of Adventures into Darkness #7.

Rat-Trap

The cover image featured on HAUNTED HORROR #5 (coming this July from IDW / Yoe Books) is from the November 1952 issue of Mister Mystery #8, --and so is today's hairy tale illustrated by Tony Mortellaro! If this one doesn't gnaw your brain to pieces, nothing will!

The Children's Vampire Hunting Brigade (KICKSTARTER)

David Blake Lucarelli writes in to let us know there is currently a KICKSTARTER under way for The Children's Vampire Hunting Brigade, a new 4-issue mini series comic inspired by the true life events of The Gorbal's Vampire legend from Scotland. This may ring some bells with long time THOIA followers as this half century old+ urban legend from Glasgow is hauntingly tied to a precode horror tale we've featured here twice already (and now a third time for you newbies!) If you're unfamiliar with the legend, click this link HERE for full backstory from the BBC, then click HERE for more info about the new Kickstarter comic project and how to help. And below (again) is an encore presentation of Hy Fleischman's bloodsuckin classic-- The Vampire with the Iron Teeth, from the December 1953 issue of Dark Mysteries #15. Best of luck to David and company with this project!

Birth of a Corpse

THOIA returns after a brief mini vacation to the super fun, spook house loaded Wisconsin Dells, with a WTF weirdie from the August 1952 issue of Strange Terrors #2GCD thinks the art here might be by Bob Forgione... I'm looking forward to the comments on this one. I also want to thank everyone again for the all the kind birthday wishes on my last post-- THANK YOU!

The Hungry Horde

Mr. Karswell turned another year older on May 1st, and while taking a much needed / extended break, found himself again very fortunate to have friends who'll do some dirty work for me, err-- him! An anonymous friend sends in these scans, a fun and freaky Jon Blummer vampire tale from the January 1953 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #39, followed by a great birthday illustration by Haunted Horror cohort-- Art Fuentes! Get ready for another month of vintage horror hits and other assorted mayhem!
