Two horror quickies from the June-July 1952 issue of Eerie #7, the first tale containing some typically great art from Joe Kubert, PLUS a gorgeous b/w Everett Raymond Kinstler preface page. This is the last post of June 2012, hope you enjoyed the Golden Age terror tales showcased this month, we'll kick things off in July with a long awaited THOIA Contest, plus a few other surprises, as well as some scary San Diego Comic-Con news! FYI: only two weeks away-- who's going?
I will join this contest if and only if the prize is a guest solo on a Sons of Black Mass song :)
ReplyDeleteI like both these tales, a bit predictable but fun for the first one and the second one I have no idea what happened! Did he get possessed? Did he become the ghoul? Was he always the ghoul? Who didn't notice the face? Did he only transform at night? Who knows?
Fun reads, good art.
That devil was one ungrateful bastard!
ReplyDeleteThe second in a very sideways way reminds me of Stephen King's short story, "Strawberry Spring."

ReplyDeleteHaha, Hail Gumba!

I've stumbled upon quite a few precode tales that King seems to have drawn inspiration from, check this out, Tim:

Thanks for the link to the awesome story! Although I see the Creep Show connection, King's story was a direct rip-off (or as he called it, "homage") to H.P. Lovecraft's "The Colour Out of Space."
ReplyDeleteA bit of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde about that second tale.
