Lady or the Tigress?

An interesting art style that I can't quite put my finger on (looks familiar, anybody know who this is?) [GCD credits it to Leonard Frank, whoever he might be -- Nequam] is the highlight of this cool Cat People rip-off from the February 1953 issue of This Magazine is Haunted #9. (Love that transformation panel on page 6!)

    This was awesome. That transformation scene was indeed quite a kick in the pants, but I don't want to miss the opportunity to appreciate the middle two frames on the last page. How cool are these? On the surface they're just padding, something to postpone the finale till the last row of panels. But they are also really cool foreshadowing, depicting Matson as he prowls around with his pistol against a background of steadily thickening orange and black stripes.

    Would it crass of me to mention the fact that tigers are found in *Asia* not (so far as I know!) Africa?

    (Specifically from India or thereabouts) to Java to Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos to (I think) China!("F's" in geoology and zoology!for everybody!

    The eyebrows of characters are reminiscent of Bill Everett, but the faces in general remind me of the work of Milton Caniff.

    What do you all think?

    Crass is a bit harsh.

    Interesting thoughts Turok, thanks... and THIS JUST IN-- THOIA chums, Blaise and Mim, write in with this other thought: "...a collector of old comics believes that the artist is Kurt Schaffenberger. He was working for Fawcett at the time and was the artist for Captain Marvel and Ibis in Whiz comics."

    Any other ideas?

    Checking out Lambieks for artists at Fawcett, cross referenced with a list from Wikipedia, I think maybe it could be Leonard Frank.

    Did anybody notice the face beside the flower pot in the middle panel of the last page?
    It looks like the face of a foot-tall Cossack smiling. Perhaps 'tis the Imp of Premonition of our host, Dr. Death!
    Seriously, though, I wonder if our unknown artist drew the Imp as a type of signature? Could this be a clue to his name?
