Here's a creepy crawly classic from Richard Corben, originally published in the Sept '76 issue of Vampirella #54. It's a simply told Warren tale about a boy and his pet, and like our last post, allows Corben to show off his tremendous skills in shapes, lighting, interesting angles, and textures.
How sweet...Warms a man;s heart.
ReplyDelete*What weird alternate universe are these people from???!!! Or, are they space aliens; or the inbred descendents of "mentally disturbed" scientists? (Or wizards, witches, alchemists or Kabbalahists* for that matter)?
ReplyDeleteI mean; these people make the Munsters or Addams Family look like the Cleavers, Bradys, or Waltons!:)
GOOD, WEIRD, story, though!
*No anti-Semeticism implied, stated or intended!

EWWWWWW!!!...
ReplyDeleteThat made me want some Bubble Yum.
ReplyDeleteJeez, I'd probably regret getting that critter even more than I regret the darn dachshunds I got for my son's twelfth birthday nine years ago. I like them, but I'm not really a "dog person." But now I can tell myself, "hey, at least they don't eat the Avon lady!"
ReplyDeleteNow THIS is more like it! Most of you will be too young to remember, but this story was first scheduled to appear in Creepy #67 (the December 1974 issue) as evidenced by the cover:

My friend and I were incensed to discover that the already well publicized and eagerly awaited "Bowser" was not in the book. We checked every Warren book every month for almost two full years before it oddly cropped up in Vampi #54. In retrospect, it's easy to say it was worth the wait, but two years is a long, long time to a grade schooler.
A boy and his, um .... yeah.
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteA sweet story of a boy and his...Eldritch Abomination?
How did the kid know which tentacle-thing to put the dog collar on?
ReplyDeleteI had a flashback tonight about reading this comic as a child. First time I've thought about it in 20 (30?) or more years, and here it is!! Thank you!
ReplyDeletewe had tried for years to find a copy of this story... (even bought the issue of Creepy that said that this story was in... Only the art on the cover)... so after many years we finally got to see this great Corben story..!!
