Plants are pretty scary, no? No?! Well then check out this crazy ass creeper classic with fantastic art by
Rocco Mastroserio (signed as
Marcus Rocke) from the January 1953 issue of
Out of the Shadows #7, ...we think maybe you'll change your mind.
Need another spooky tale but still haven't checked out Karswell's other blog? Well now's the perfect time to get caught up on
everything else too! Just click the image below:
Karswell: Great stuff from Mastroserio! It's very cool to see stuff from his pre-Charlton days. He's one of those guys whose memory seems marginalized because, perhaps, of his association with Charlton (so unfair to both artist and company!). Thanks for posting! -- Mykal
ReplyDeleteFEEEEEEED MEEEEE!!!...
ReplyDeleteHAAAA!!! NO PLANTS ARENT SCARY BUT THIS ONE IS!!!! GREAT TALE AS USUAL I SERIOUSLY CANT GET ENOUGH OF THESE STANDARD STORYS.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the "Everything Else Too!" blog you mentioned here. I went to it just now, and saw the "Signs of St. Louis (Neon)" blog entry from a week ago. Just in case you don't look at comments made on the older blog entries, I'll quote here what I posted in the comment section there:
ReplyDelete"Back during the 1990s I used to make fairly regular trips to Saint Louis, visiting comic shops, used book stores, and the art supply stores Artmart and Dick Blick. Also shopped at Bader's and bought an airbrush there before they sold out to Dick Blick.
"Attended one of the regular little comic book conventions that were going on in St. Louis at the time.
"Wonder if we might have bumped into one another at some point in the past."
Karswell: I LOVE the art on this one and the color is fantastic. I really think that something great has been lost with the move from hand stripping to digital, direct-to-plate technology.
ReplyDeleteAnd romance, murder and botany is always a fun combination!
>cool to see stuff from his pre-Charlton days.
ReplyDeleteTotally... maybe you could post something by him over at your Charlton blog for comparison?
>FEEEEEEED MEEEEE!!!...
Haha, I knew you were gonna say that.
>I SERIOUSLY CANT GET ENOUGH OF THESE STANDARD STORYS.
Lots more on the way, in fact later thisweek I'll have a couple wild 'n weird ones from Jack Katz!
>Wonder if we might have bumped into one another at some point in the past.
It's possible, though the last half of the 90's I lived in Los Angeles... when you say comic book conventions are you talking about the old Koepling House comic shows?
>romance, murder and botany is always a fun combination!
I agree Spectregirl, and don't forget the MONSTERS!
Karswell: ". . . maybe you could post something by him over at your Charlton blog for comparison?"
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Soon!
Karswell: I will post some of Mastroserio's western Charlton next post. In the meantime, if readers are curious for classic Mastroserio from the Charlton era, I posted a Black Fury comic back in may on Charlton blog. Find it HERE! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteRight on, thanks Mykal!
