Originally presented in the June 1953 issue of Uncanny Tales #9 (but scanned from my December 1973 issue of Uncanny Tales #1) comes this great mad doctor tale that, according to the Atlas site, is the second of two stories by Reed Crandall for Timely in 1953 before he joined EC. It’s interesting to compare his style here with the Ken Shannon story I posted last Thursday.
Seems like one of the rare unsigned Stan Lee stories to me, as well. Here's my explenaition: http://www.atlastales.com/sI/4356
ReplyDeleteHi Karswell, great post, this story impressed me in my childrenhood readings. Dispite I hate the violence to the animals, the big teeth man is one of my favorite characters.
ReplyDeleteFun way to start the week.
ReplyDeleteAs if Feeny wasn't already enough of a creepazoid, Crandall just had to really drive it home with that last panel. [Shudder!!]
ReplyDelete'Dr. Teeth' might have made a better title.
OH MY GOD THAT WAS HILARIOUS! YES YES YES THOSE TEETH!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteugliest mad doctor of all time! the teeth are creepy indeed but what up that bowl cut and weird tiny moustache!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeems we have another winner here at THOIA this morning. But don't overlook Horror of Mixed Torsos everyone, it's a real doozy!
ReplyDeleteGer - if you notice in the story intro I always hyperlink the issue to either GCD, or with an Atlas story to the Atlas site. Thanks! Your hardwork over at Atlas is invaluable and very much appreciated!
Yeah, that last panel really sells the story. Great Crandall art.
ReplyDeleteEegads! Those teeth actually made me more nauseous than anything in the mixed up torsos story!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if one of his previous experiments was a revolutionary way to (a)repair teeth by (b)removing the upper lip from the subject and experimented on himself...accomplishing (b) while forgetting (a).
ReplyDeleteYou know, his teeth remind me of Amy Winehouse.
ReplyDeleteI love how they never bother to explain why Feeny is so deformed and horrible. The great cinematic close-ups and shadows really sell this story. Great fun! Would make a cool horror short.
ReplyDelete>>but what up that bowl cut and weird tiny moustache!!!!
Come on now--without he moustache, he'd be REALLY ugly! :)
Whoah. Lovely artwork in this one!
