Terror Tale

And here’s a monstrous Stan Lee / Russ Heath quickie classic… say, am I crazy or has the Atlas Tales info page for this particular issue somehow forgotten to fully list this story?

From the April 1953 issue of Marvel Tales #113

  1. The Heath story has some great artwork that even the printer, as hard as he tried, couldn't totally ruin. The title "Terror Tale," is generic, and the writing appears to have been dashed off in about five minutes. You wonder why Heath did such a beautiful job on such a lame script. But, being able to rise above the indifference of the writing is why Russ Heath was one of the all- time best at what he did!

I DONT MIND THE GENERIC STAN LEE STORY HERE, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TABLES TURN TWISTS THAT ATLAS DID ALOT BUT IT NEVER GETS OLD OR LAME TO ME, ESPECIALLY WITH GREAT RUSS HEATH ART TO DROOL OVER!

  3. I agree, Stan used this story variation a billion times but it's still fun none the less. And Paps is also right, Russ Heath was most definitely one of the best!

I obviously haven't read as many comics as some of you so this story is new to me and I thought it was awesome!

This is definitely a classic case of the talent rising above the material,it's also one of MANY Atlas stories depicting vampires living in a tribe,i consider it a trademark.

  6. I always prefer the vampire stories with them portrayed more as ferocious monsters than the sucka you blaaah romantic types as portrayed by Universal.

That last page has got to be one of the finest pages in all of pre-code horror... just brilliant! Thanks for sharing this one!

  9. I remember seeing a reprint of this that had been retitled "Bat's Tale". I think this was in CURSE OF THE WEIRD. While still not great, "Bat's Tale" is a much better title than the generic "Terror Tale".
