Ever hear of the hillbilly superstition that if a cat jumps over a corpse then the dead body will come back as a vampire? Yeah, me neither… but it sure makes for an interesting pre-code horror story! Lin Streeter’s artwork here is also exceptionally slick and eerie.

Wild Mountain Vampire Girls! What a great concept! Much more interesting than "Bloodsucking Bimbos from Burbank"!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! THESE RECENT STORIES FROM ACG HAVE BECOME MY FAVORITES OF ALL YOUR POSTS. ITS WEIRD YOU NEVER HEAR MUCH ABOUT LIN STREETER, IN FACT I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT HIM UNTIL I STARTED VISTING YOUR BLOG.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!
I think those "superstitious mountain folk" are actually in the mountains of Transylvania, but, yeah...
ReplyDeleteWait--what if you throw a Stradivarius over a dead guy? Will he come back to life?
ReplyDelete>actually in the mountains of Transylvania
ReplyDeleteSince when are The Smokies in Transylvania?
I was actually wondering what would happen if a person jumped over a dead cat. Obviously nothing happens when you DRIVE over one that's already flat on the road.
Y'know as much as i complain about remakes,i would like to see a remake of this where PETA pops up at the last moment and lets the cat get away!i also like the altered mythology, being cat-hopped not only makes you a vampire, your clothes become less revealing!.
ReplyDeleteArtwork reminds me of Al Feldstein.
ReplyDeleteIf a person jumps over a dead cat, the cat comes back as...I dunno, Brian Setzer??
ReplyDeleteHow about if Eartha Kitt jumps over a dead guy? What happens, then? If nothing happens, could she try doing splits over his face?
(I apologize in advance for that one...)
Okay, all kitting aside... what happens when a vampire jumps over a live cat?
ReplyDeleteTime to get a new cat...
ReplyDeleteWhat if an umpire tries to jump start a cat but the battery is dead?

ReplyDeleteThat's when the empire strikes back in black.
THIS IS THE SILLIEST COMMENTS SECTION I'VE EVER READ! TOO FUNNY.
ReplyDeleteHi karswell... the artist is Lin Streeter, righ? I love this one. Any Matt Fox stories in your future posts?
ReplyDeleteYes, this story is illustrated by Lin Streeter, I've posted a couple stories by him now so check the back archives too.
ReplyDeleteI hope to have some Matt Fox stories ready in January.
Thanks karswell!!!
ReplyDeleteI like how after his wife blows away the hillbilly the husband nonchalantly wants to go back to sleep.
