Name From the Nether World

Today marks the start of a week long tribute to ACE Comics. I haven’t posted many examples of their great 50’s horror output here yet so I guess it’s time to catch up and give these devils their due. Let’s kick things off with a neat vampire tale from the February 1953 issue of Web of Mystery #17.

its funny when comics put themselves into the story like its all real....whats even funnier is a vampire bat using a typewriter!!!!

  4. ACG did this alot too, basing the story around a writer type character who works for them, or someone submitting a story from some dreadful ordeal they just survived in hopes that it enlightens or saves the world.

Sort of the Lovecraft approach, his stories are often the "Written accounts" of what the "writer" was involved in.

Great stuff!,ACE really was one of the most underrated publishers of horror, even if the art isn't so interesting it has moments, like the corpses shown in monochrome green, and a weird, but inventively satisfying take on old legends. I wonder how many Desmonds really tried?,really illustrates the difference between eras, one shout SHAZAM!to become a hero, one shouts Desmoda to become a vampire, and all my stupid era gets to do is Etrigan's complicated spell.
