  1. Heartbreaking. The man was in his 90s so I knew it was gonna happen sooner or later, but it is heartbreaking still.

  2. So sorry to hear of his passing.

  3. I've never known him more than decently from the horror comics, but his work in Mad is another matter. When I think about that magazine, he's just about the first thing I think of.

  4. And the last of the greats for one of the most important, imitated, and great burst of inventive comic art -- EC -- leaves us. RIP.

  5. As commented on "Everything Else Too"

It is terrible when one of the greats passes.

May he rest in peace, and may his legacy of artwork be enjoyed for generations to come.

  6. He was likely the world's greatest cartoonist; or at least in the top five all-time. Luckily, he drew so much, for so many decades, that there will never be a sense that his work was unfinished (like with Maneely or Bode), or that we've managed to see everything there is of it. I mean I spent almost all night last night looking at Jack Davis stuff on the internet--for not the first time this month, frankly--and there still is so mind-bogglingly much more that I know I'll be seeing new (to me) work by the man till I'm his age. It's comforting.

Brian Barnes Marie Severin is still alive, man. She's the last.

  7. Mr. Cavin you're right. Let's start digging for Davis' work and let's hope that many young artists will be inspired by him.
Thanks for the video bio you posted in Karswell's other blog.
The man Jack looks like a good fellow, with a placid personality that makes me glad to listen to him.

  8. @Mr. Cavin - ARGH, how could I forget Marie? She was as important as the artist and touched almost everything they did.

  9. So many great comments, thanks for stopping by and paying your respects-- a trip to the EC archives is up next, it seems only fitting... see you in a few.
