The Hellfire Club (PART TWO)

Apologies for the delay with PART TWO, but here it is finally --I should know by now to never do a 22 page story the same week as HAASHOW-- (horrific highlights from the con coming up next!) But here's what you've all been waiting for, some of you on tenterhooks too apparently, haha! Hope everyone enjoyed this venture into Charlton Comics Group terrortory, if you want to see more, be sure to drop me a line... I like to mix things up around here so any thoughts, comments, or suggestions are always welcome! From the Sept '77 issue of The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #61.

  2. I remembered that this story ended with a BANG!

Dr. Graves was sometimes the protagonist and sometimes the host to horror stories. Gold Key's Doctor Spektor was more in line of a supernatural/occult detective from beginning to end, while Dr. Graves eventually became just a narrator as Charlton began winding down production.

Sometimes Charlton could turn out minor horror gems, this story is one of them.

  3. Now that was worth waiting for, even on the tenterhooks! Both story and artwork were good, I especially liked the splash panel with the horses trampling the giant rats. I was half-expecting a twist at the end with Philo Modred turning out to be the villain, or even his fiancée, it's the kind of twist a lot of the horror comic scripters liked. Notwithstanding I loved this one. I too have a special fondness for the supernatural detective genre.

    Nice one, Karswell!

  4. Nice art, a fun read, but pretty poorly plotted. Mesterie always mentioned this, but off-panel resolutions are real let-downs in comics. It was actually building up a good head of steam with the race towards the mansion, but then lost it all when they were just let go, and, "boom."

That said, more great art, more non-square and rounded, twisting backgrounds. Sometimes the paneling was a bit confusing.

BUT, a great read. Silly, b-movie stuff, not to think to deeply on. I'm overly analytical about construction, so you get these rants!
