Bloody Mary

THOIA friend and pre-code cohort "Space Lord" (of the doubly excellent Fifties Horror and Ace Horror websites), was kind enough to share today's story with us, it's another Ajax Farrell classic, this time from the February - March 1954 issue of Strange Fantasy #10. A truly abominable bad seed baby, later reprinted and modified nearly a half dozen times for the Eerie Pub mags in the 60's, with one more vicious resurrection a decade later in an 80's Gredown publication called Reign of Terror.

So you think the makers of Orphan might just have run across this at some point?

  2. The artist went out of his way to draw every main character as ugly as possible. It really made the story pretty grimy.

That Reign of Terror cover is bizarre: the drawing is the most 80s thing that as every existed, for all eighties, for any time and across infinite dimensions ... but ... the lettering looks to be right out of a underground 60s comic (especially "werewolf's fangs!")

    Haven't seen Orphan yet.

This approach to horror is very much appreciated... unlike nowadays where ever person (in horror film or comics) resembles a teenage super model or porn star. BORING!

    >where do you find this stuff--swap meets--tag sales? are you robbing people at gunpoint?

All of the above. Actually, these last two stories were submission from Brian Hirsch (Hair Tee-Eeee) and Space Lord (Bloody Mary.)

  5. That shrink was terrible. So much for the patient's privilege of confidentiality. Sheesh. I wouldn't tell that guy a damn thing.

  6. I kept waiting for the scene where they catch her shaving and smoking a cigar in the bathroom. "Don't play with the dirty money!"

  7. I'd say the artist and writer knew my own kids, but ...
