The Dead Are Never Lonely

Here's a real kooky spooker with fantastic art from the March 1953 issue of Baffling Mysteries #14, (plus a bonus one-page story from the same issue.) We'll be finishing out the month of April with a week of Ace terror tales, specifically highlights from Baffling Mysteries and The Beyond.

Beyond that, none may not know what awaits...

  1. I loved this one. Death is quite the rational philosopher in this - what a cool take on the grim reaper. Plus, the art is fantastic. I loved how the artist captured the way the skeleton emerged once death came to Nolita, the skin barely covering teeth and bones. Very scary. - Mykal

  2. Great post. Any idea who the artist is? It looks like all brush.

This looks like Ditko to me. Or at least parts of it. Right from the woman in the splash panel on. She looks like a Ditko woman and even has Ditko hands.

  4. Whoever this is he was very good and did alot of work for Ace horror comics. Unfortunantly most of the Ace stories are uncredited, with just a few obvious artists like Lou Cameron and Gene Colan being easily identifiable... Cameron in fact is the only one I can think of right now who ever even bothered to sign his name on his stuff for this publisher.

  6. In that panel on the first page, where the men she had used and forgotten are shown - apparently one of them was Robin Hood. ???

Good story, I always enjoy these Ace posts. And to 8th Ray >> Nolita was an actress so maybe she starred in a Robin Hood production?
