Meet the Cowled Lady

And now for the last post of March 2010! From the November 1953 issue of Web of Mystery #12, it's time to meet the cowled lady! Yes, it's unlikely you've read a goofier monster story than this one all month here, seriously! FYI: don't forget about THOIA's "Deadly Duplicates" contest going on until midnight Wednesday (see our previous post--- "6 of Me on the Prowl" for all the details!)

Has Max Cheney (aka "The Drunken Severed Head") finally really lost his head?!! He's just uploaded his first horror comic scan post, a great Skeates and Acala werewolf tale from DC's March 1973 issue of Secrets of the Sinister House #10, click HERE for Castle Curse!

  2. Gruesome, but it's nice to know all fifties vampires weren't total morons. I think this is the first time I saw them quench their thirst.

GREAT ENDING! REALLY LIKED THIS ONE AND THE MONSTERS WERE COOL AND LIKE YOU SAID GOOFY TOO BUT THATS WHAT I LOVED MOST ABOUT THEM.

  4. I always read these stories and do the "Casting Call" in my head for the movie version: I'd like to see Russ Tamblyn as Don, Richard O'Brien as Mr. Desmodus (of course), and Andree Melly as The Cowled Lady... but who would be a good Edith?

  5. I suppose Jean Stapleton is too old.

How about Andree Melly in a duel role?

  7. Since you seem to be casting actors whose careers were in different periods (and why not? It's a *dream* cast), why not Helen Chandler as Edith? (Hey, she has a few fans!) And Fenella Fielding for the Cowled Lady? ;)

Thanks very much for the shout out, by the way! Much appreciated!

  8. I think Edith would have to be someone you instantly like--a collaborator in a hip, New York tomboy-with-money kind of a way. Jean Arthur? Barbara Stanwyck? Susanne Pleshette? Andree Melly is an inspired choice, by the way.

This story was great. I loved the happy ending and the soiree-full of fop party favors. I would love to see this get into some serious sixties Italian castle freak grue: there's no reason why the cowled ghoul that slowly bumps Don's bloody corpse limply down the stairway couldn't still be Edith--give those revelers what they're asking for! Albeit it's this new Edith, a broken-necked vision of glowing blood and blue skin. Cue piano.

My first choice was actually Debi Mazar, but that would've really annoyed Max's time periods.

And! There's still plenty of time to enter THOIA's last post contest too, if you haven't already, check out "6 of Me on the Prowl" now and tell us what you'd do with 6 deadly duplicates of yourself! You could win yourself something neat!

Thanks again for the comments... and man, March was alot of freaky ass fun around here, wasn't it?

Glad no one mentioned, "gay party," showing mature adults visit this site.
